I was very fortunate to retire and close my store 10 weeks before Covid scare restrictions would likely have forced me out of business anyway. Funny how fate works sometimes.
I do miss the interactions with all my customers often, but my phone number has not changed and I still get a few calls every week and am always glad to help with any issues I can.

I do remember some months ago that you were able to help a UHH member who needed parts for a Nest tripod and I think also someone looking for a tour guide at Yellowstone. So many kudos for your contributions.

Good for Nikon, but as a college professor often told us, "the use of just one statistic seldom tells the whole story."

So, what are the Z9 sales as a per cent of all Nikon sales, how did the Z9 sales increase in the last quarter, etc.?

And yes, any good news about cameras is good news for all camera manufacturers.

IMHO, the Z9 is one hell of a camera. I was getting there, and then firmware 2.0 was released. I keep practicing and experimenting. Best of luck to all.

The folks I know who bought, and now have them, are one professional and three exceedingly serious and skillful “amateur” photographers. The one non-pro who just came back from Africa has spectacular photos and high praise for the camera.

The Nikon Z9 captured 57% of the Pro full frame mirrorless market this past quarter, DESPITE still being in backorder status everywhere. Nikon is still selling them faster than they can make them worldwide.

Perhaps but you have to wait until the fallout. That camera is cheaper for reason. It is not made in Japan like Canon. My first DSLR was a Nikon D100, I did not the way it exposed, got a D70, I loved that camera, but the guy I sold the D100 to it failed with in few years. The D70 failed as well outside of the warranty, Nikon fixed it basically the power disconnected from the motherboard some how and it was a big issue for many D70 users.

Bayou Josh bought a Z9, he then switched to Sony https://youtu.be/RsG2uGuiuXE

I still like Nikon and kept my D810 even though I jumped ship to Canon. So I want Nikon to success so they are competition for everyone else. Competition improves the breed and kills off the weak. Nikon was weak and was being killed off. The competition defiantly improved Nikon.. and I am glad.

Were camera stores overstocked by millions and subsequently had super stocktake sales I still wouldn't be able to afford one!

I'm still waiting on mine. I traded all my DLSR. and lenses in and only kept my Nikon D4 which is transferred into infrared and my Nikon 14-24mm F2.8 lens and my 19mm tilt-shift lens. I bought the Nikon Z9 and Nikon lens 24-120mm, and the Nikon Z 100-400mm lens, and the adapter so I can use my other Nikon lens

...But I do applaud Nikon for their excellent Z9 (whose sensor is likely manufactured by Sony, Nikon wont deny it, lol)

I read a while back that Nikon did deny the sensor was made by Sony. There is much speculation that it was designed in-house by Nikon and manufactured by Tower Semiconductor, who in turn was purchased by Intel this past February. There is no absolute proof of this, but I did read Nikon's denial of a Sony sensor a few months back.

The oft rumored Z8 will reportedly use the Sony 61mp sensor.

Wouldn't it be Z80 or something? Because it would be in DX format.

Yes, I see what you're saying. One digit - full frame, Two digits - cropped sensor.

Kinda hard to do this when their total output projected per year is 3500 units.

Wherever did you hear that? According to what I am aware of, Nikon's number of Z9s already delivered is way way above that. Just another incorrect statement. Best of luck.

That output number is "per USA shipment", not per year. My personal Z9 came from the very first shipment and is SN # 3214. There have been at least 9 acknowledged USA shipment since that one.
Time to fact check your statement.
I just love how the Canon fanboys make up their own "facts" to suit their desires! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

First, I'm glad to hear this because competition is good and Nikon makes great products.

However, I have to comment a little on how carefully they worded their "claim"...

They have 57% share of....

Mirrorless
Full frame
Pro cameras
Selling for $5000 or more

At first glance, there are 10 cameras that meet that criteria.

However, seven of them are Leica... Five of those M-series that cost $9000 and are only bought by dentists (). The two remaining Leica are SL2 models, part of the "L-system Alliance" with Sigma and Panasonic. Those SL2 cost $7000. Essentially, all these Leica are niche products that have very small market share and really don't compete with the Nikon Z9.

That leaves just two cameras, both more expensive than the Nikon Z9 ($5500). Those are the Sony A1 ($6500) and the Canon R3 ($6000).

You also might argue that the Canon R3 is targeted at a different market, a somewhat specialized "sports" camera with 24MP (versus 46MP in the Z9 and 50MP in the A1).

The Sony A1 was announced in January of last year and the initial surge of sales of it probably peaked months before either the Z9 or the R3 were announced in the Fall (just a few weeks apart).

There also have been numerous supply chain issues for all the manufacturers, making it difficult to purchase some of the cameras. You can see this in the backorders at various retailers. Just looking at B&H, of the 19 models of mirrorless cameras Sony currently offers, seven are out of stock... more than a third of their product line!. Nikon is doing a little better, with six out of eight of their mirrorless models in stock. Unfortunately though, one of the two that's currently backordered is the Z9. Canon is also doing a little better than Sony, with just two out of ten of their mirrorless now out of stock. However, that's a little misleading because four of the Canon mirrorless that are in stock are their older M-series, which are rumored to being discontinued soon in favor of the new R-series. Of the six Canon R-series, two are backordered.... And both are their newest models (R3 and R5C)!

Right now, of the three mirrorless, full frame, pro ($5000+) cameras, only the Sony A1 is in stock anywhere.

Good for Nikon that they're seeing success with the Z9. It seems a great camera and will be interesting to see if some of its tech trickles down to the more affordable models.
