When I distrust someone/place/thing I use my Yahoo mail account. Excellent spam filtering.
For my regular email accounts I use MS Outlook as my emailer with Optimum as my provider.
Neither Optimum nor Outlook are great at blocking spam or scams, but when I do have an obvious spam/scam message, and you can almost always tell, I login to my affected account via my browser and use the down arrow in the message to “block the sender’s domain,” then I select “block sender and mark as spam,” from the same list. Doesn’t work as well as Yahoo, and I imagine, Gmail, but it helps. I don’t trust gmail too much because it’s a Google product and notorious for tracking and selling your information.

Somethings you might want to remember:
1. You can usually tell if a message is fake by opening it (NOT ANY ATTACHMENTS OR LINKS,) and seeing what the real email address is.
2. NEVER EVER CLICK ON AN ATTACHMENT OR LINK FROM A SUSPICIOUS EMAIL!

A fake email address might look like this:

Chase@axqyewmyujkjk.pl.

Hope this is helpful to you all.

Maybe I over simplify. I don’t open email, unless I recognize the address. I also don’t delete it. The emails remain on the server. I just ignore them.

Since 1971, I’ve never been phished or “attacked”.

Have you ever gone back and looked at junk emails?
Why keep them "forever" if they are garbage?
I delete junk post haste.

I only open them so I can set the filters to block them unless they’re from my Yahoo mail. Then I can just mark them as Spam.

I understand. They are not on my PC - they are on Gmail's servers. I simply ignore all emails I deem as junk, garbage, unwanted, ...
Thanks for your comment, Bill!!

Mine aren't on my computer either, I just dislike clutter of things I'll never use.

I hate clutter too, when it's visible. The emails are not visible (to me). I know, I'm a bit weird! I'm allowed to be a bit weird - I'm 85!

I get very little. It usually goes to the Junk folder at my ISP's mail server. I check it regularly to insure that the server doesn't become overprotective.

I know the clutter exists, even if I can't see it. Must be the logician in me.
I'm 15 years behind you, who knows how I'll feel in another 15 years.

I use Thunderbird for email. Every time I get two crap emails from any address I set up a Filter so they are deleted on delivery. Now, I never see them.

Some SCAMS are so easy to spot. Take this one for instance:

--
I want to inform you today during the
(IRS Internal Revenue Service & IMF International Monetary Fund)
Investigation service found out that you have two Approval Overdue
Inheritance Funds such as consignment box value of $10.5 million USD
and ATM card value of $10.5 million USD from UPS courier service
company and DHL
courier service company.

The two company director team together and asked for high charges
that you cannot be able to pay for them to archive dreams of
diverting your fund to their company personal treasury account.
As lucky you're almighty God exposed all their evil plan against you.
The (IRS) Commissioner Charles Peter personally brought your
consignment box and ATM card in my office yesterday morning for
immediately safety delivery.
May glory be to almighty god for exposing their criminals act you have
to praise God for saving
this consignment box and ATM card for you which will change you and
your generation
families life to good.
I need your urgent response as soon as you read my message to enable
me know how you can receive your consignment box and ATM card at your
doorstep today
okay
Forward your full delivery address to me such as:
1) Your Name???
2) Your Home Address???
3) Your Nearest Airport Address???
4) Your Nationality???
5) Your ID Card???
6) Your Occupation???
As soon as you send me the full needed information you will receive
your consignment box and ATM card in peace!
And the delivery will only cost you $50 Google play gift card or
iTunes gift card to make everything successful and you will receive
your consignment box and the ATM card today at your doorstep as soon
as you send me the full needed information and the required fee of $50
understand.

I don't have to look but it is obvious it is from Africa because of the awful punctuation and of the religious references.

I don't know who or what is responsible but this is something positive. Since I started this thread I no longer receive any SPAM and SCAMS have been reduced to one or two a day.

If it's Gmail that is responsible then thanks and congratulations. However, why did it take so long?

gmail does a great job of filtering. Check the gmail spam file, and you will find it full of spam that was filtered. One click and it is gone forever
