If I remember right, which is very possible I don't LOL. If the ball is inside of glove runner is out which this one looks like he might be out. Excellent shot by the way, please keep posting. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I am not aware of the ‘inside the globe’ rule. I have seen runners called safe because the defender bobbled the ball. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm pretty sure the runner is out. The ball is traveling 70 to 90 mph and I am sure the runner is not. The ball should hit leather a fraction of a second before the foot hits the base.

What did the umpire call?

Based entirely on your pic with the cropped insert, I would say that the ball is closer to the gloves' pocket than the runner's foot is to the base.
Also, assuming that the ball is traveling faster than the runner and thus closing faster.
A good umpire will also listen for the "pop" of the glove when the ball lodges in the pocket and his eyes to help gauge the winner while assuring that the 1st baseman has his foot in contact with the bag.
Wow, that amount of thinking taxed my CPU almost as much as your setting up the camera to get such a wonderful shot!
Finally, as a former (50+ years ago - Huge Grin) Little League Umpire I would say that "There are no ties in baseball!"
Your shot as well as the cropped version both make me . . . .

P.S.: Thanks for making me think this early in the day.
Edit: Your sound reasoning and team loyalities may also shape your opinion. <Grin>

I have heard the umpires go by sound in determining out or safe. Tie goes to the runner?

Out was the call which I think would be difficult to overturn in court. However, with the umpire at 2nd base, I'm going to say that I had the better view. Can you imagine what an uproar this call would cause if it were the 3rd out in the championship game of the state finals with the tying run coming home from 3rd?
Hey, thanks for stopping by - I really appreciate it.

I cannot make the call in your excellent photograph. The runner's foot is not on the base but it isn't 100% clear that the glove is touching the runner either. IF it is touching the runner than he is OUT. Glad I was not the umpire on that call.

Well, this was at 1st base & a tag wasn’t required. It gets down to the speed of a few inches of travel - the ball into the pocket of the glove vs. the foots descent to the bag.

Fun to speculate and thanks for stopping by!
