Most chambers of commerce, and even visitors' guides are built around entries of entities which are members or which pay to be listedvor featured. Lots of really good destinations are not included.
Of course, sometimes residents can become jaded by local attractions, even really good ones. So my suggestion is to be as comprehensive as possible when researching a destination.
Amen to that. Most of "officialdom" in a capitalist economy will direct you to places and activities that encourage or require you to empty your wallet! Economic activity is great, but not necessary for a good time (unless you're in Las Vegas...).
A certain amount of research in different venues, followed by a bit of "blindly wandering around," is in order. Many of the quirky places I've been and enjoyed were happy accidents like this one on planet infrared Ektachrome back in 1976. It's the ruins of an old fort near Charleston, SC.
