Oh my, where do I start? How about with this: The famous Greek island of Santorini is the largest of a circle of islands formed by the caldera of a volcano. The volcano Thira (Thera in English) gives its official name to the island, although the name given by the Romans is still widely used today. Thira's eruption some 3,600 years ago was one the largest is known history, and is still considered active, although there has been no evidence of volcanic activity for years.

The port is also named Thira/Thera, but the main sites are Oia (pronounced "Ee-ah") and Akrotiri, which contains the best-known Minoan site outside of Crete. Unfortunately, pending weather prevented us from visiting. Still, Oia is probably the most photographed location in Greece. One view of the blue-domed churches is sure to register with with people almost as much as the vaunted Acropolis in Athens.

I wanted to shoot more than the standard tourist photos, so I'm probably going to split this into more than one section. I'll be needing to disconnect my external hard drive for the week, as I need the ports for work-related items.

So, let's go...

Yep, I have to start with an iconic blue-domed church. Welcome to Santorini!

"Interesting" always seems like a deadly word to me. I think I'd prefer to think of it as, "Fascinating." (Thank you, Mr. Spock).

I've been to Santorini once. It's a beautiful place and in my opinion a difficult place to photograph with so much white in the scene. You did a good job of getting the mood. Thanks for taking me back there.
