This husky fu, eh, fella is unknown to me. Sorta unusual coloring between body and head.

Leica V-Lux 5, out my off window.

One of the funnier bird sightings you'll have is a smaller bird like a sparrow hatching these cowbird eggs and feeding them when they're already bigger than the mother after only a short period of growth. The cowbird lays its eggs in the nest of others and then leaves, called a brood parasite. There are others as well, I think the cuckoo does it too. It usually ends in tragedy for one or more of the bigger birds 'siblings' as they hog all the food and crowd or throw the smaller birds out of the nest.

The Brown Headed Cowbird is a brood parasite here in the US. The cuckoos here in the states are not brood parasites. They are actually very good parents. European cuckoos are brood parasites.

When I first saw it was the early 80's and the only resource I had was my field guides. Thanks to Roger Tory Peterson, I eventually figured it out, but it had me pretty amazed and baffled until I did. The cowbird was nearly full-grown and his 'mother' was still caring for him. He would just stand in my yard pecking at the grass and waiting for her to return. That part of the story was pretty comical.
