Sorry, but we had a change of plans. (Thanks for the feedback)

Going to the Costa Rica (instead of the Galapagos) mid-end of May.
Same questions-Have a Nikon Z6 and a Z50.
Leaning a bit to the Z50 as a weight saver while touring, as well as taking part in activities.
I have 16-50, 18-140, and 50-250 dx lenses for the Z50- and 40mm, 24-200, 14-30 fx lens
for the Z6.

What do you guys recommend?
Again, many thanks
Ken

Depends where you are going and what you are doing. If you’re going into the rain forest to photograph the local wildlife than the 50-250 would be good. Birds, monkeys and sloths are fairly high up in the trees. For the landscape the 18-140 or 16-50. I used a 200-400 and a 35-70 in the rain forest . Had a 24 prime for landscape. Used a full frame film camera at the time.

A question like that really can only be answered by you. It depends on what your vision is and what you want to accomplish. For me, I’d take the Z50 and the 18-140mm.

I've been to CR three times on workshops. You need a longer lens! If that's out of the question, go with the 16-50 and 50-250.... Ideal would be at least 400mm or 600mm (and a macro).

Why the Change?

I'd have recommended Galapagos over Costa Rica, though both are AWESOME

And don't forget a good rain cover! You will need it.

My most used lens in Costa Rica was my Nikon 300mm f4 pf lens. But I was there for nature--birds, hummigbirds, animals, poison frogs, ect.--on a photo tour. And I used a flash and extension tubes too.

I too am hoping to get to Costa Rica, before long.

This advice makes good sense to me, especially since I have that equipment and might have left the heavy, long lens home.

Thank you very much!

Hey Ken! I went to Costa Rica, last February and March; a most incredible experience. I took my Z6ii and my Nikkor Z 24-200. I only wish I had brought my converter as well... 90% of the time, it was great. To capture distant birds (Quetzals) it needed help that I didn't bring. But that was it. The lens/body was with me all the time and I didn't think it was too heavy or awkward and I fully participated in everything (70 years). Great food, wonderful people, a heavily vaccinated country who takes their masking very seriously, but wants to show you a great time. The fewer moving parts down there, the better. Sloths, Iguanas, Quetzals, hummingbirds, and more small mammals than you can keep track of. And just wait for the birds!!! Flying, walking, nesting, they are a photographer's eye candy... And then there are the Howlers, Spiders and Capuchins. HAVE FUN! BTW. Did I mention Sloths??? We went to the Toucan Rescue Ranch, in a suburb of San Jose. They are one of just three sites in all of CR, who the government sends "saved" sloths and baby sloths for care and rescuing:

Enjoy your experience. We live on the West Coast, so Hawaii is close, but Costa Rica will now be the new "go to" warm vacation spot...
