Going to the Galapagos mid-end of May.
Have a Nikon Z6 and a Z50.
Leaning a bit to the Z50 as a weight saver while touring, as well as taking part in activities.
I have a 16-50, 18-140, and a 50-250 lenses.

What do you guys recommend?
Many thanks

You should DEFINITELY take the Z50... and two or all three lenses (your choice).

Since those are DX (APS-C) lenses and camera, 16mm = 24mm full frame... 140mm = 210mm full frame. So you could probably get by with just the 16-50mm and 18-140mm. While I haven't been to Galapagos, I understand that most of the wildlife there is easily approached... so the 50-250mm lens (75-375mm full frame equiv.) may not be needed. However, it also isn't very big or heavy, so maybe just take it anyway. You can always leave it in your room if you don't want to carry it around.

It would be nice to have a backup camera. But your FX Z6 is not ideal. The problem is you appear to only have DX lenses, which will crop or vignette heavily on the FX/full frame Z6, so that instead of that camera's 24MP images, you'll end up with something like 10MP images. With the DX lenses you have, it would be better to have a second DX camera as backup... either a Z50 or a Zfc.... where the DX lenses on them will allow for the full 24MP the DX camera offers.

On the other hand, 10MP is better than nothing. The idea of a backup camera is to be able to keep shooting, should something happen to your primary camera. It would be awful to travel all the way there, have a camera failure for some reason and be unable to shoot!

When I went to these great Islands, I took two Nikon DSLR camera bodies, and three lenses: 24-85mm; 70-200mm and a 300mm f4. The two most used lenses were the 70-200mm and 300mm. These two accounted for about 80% of my images. It also depends on what you like to shoot and what islands you will be on. Do no forget to take hard sided knee pads and good walking shoes or boots as you will be on sharp volcanic rock a lot. Its not all beachy sandy trails.

It's a trip you will enjoy beyond belief. We had just landed were bused out to the port. Walking down to the boat, this was my first experience with the wildlife. These seals were laying on the bench. I would take the 50-250 the reason being we were not allowed to walk off the trails we were on. I have posted before you can see some other pictures I took.

Might want to take a GoPro too - even if you don’t swim, a cheap selfie stick will get you some nice underwater images like lizards and birds.

I would take either the 16-50 or the 18-140 but you do not need both. Definitely take the 50-250. You will be able to get close to most wildlife, particularly the red and blue boobies. Your guide will tell you to be careful where you are walking. I used my old Nikon 80-200 and 35-70 on a film camera and got great shots. I also had a 20 mm lens with me but the first two were used every day. Some birds are nesting in trees and you will need the longer lens. Also, you will not be able to get near some of the iguanas while they are on rocks without a long lens,

I've been there several years ago and took a 300-500mm Nikon lens. There are times when taking bird pics, the 500 mm helped out. You cannot always leave a path and get closer, so I prefer having a longer lens with me. I would hate to travel that far and not have a longer lens with me just in case.

I agree. I was happy with my 80-200 and the OP does not appear to have a longer lens. Further, I would not want to carry a long heavy lens but my 80-200 was fine.

Most guides can get you very close to wild life. When I go I like to take just one lens that will do most of the work. If it were me I would take the 18-140 on the Z6. If the 18-140 is a FF lens.

Any 18-whatever lens is a DX lens, giving an equivalent range of 27-210. I’m guessing the 50-250 is also a DX lens because I’m pretty sure Nikon doesn’t make a 50-250 FX lens. Actually I just looked at what he has and all 3 are DX lenses. No use taking the Z6. In that case the 16-50 would give a little bit more on the wide end but not be as versatile overall as the 18-140. It’s only 3 lenses. I’d take them all. The 18-140 would be my go to but the others might be useful in situations. Two millimeters doesn’t sound like much but it cam make difference on the short end.

FWIW

Went -- Camera was a Nikon Z-5.

I took the 24-200 and a Sigma 100-400. I used both.
