what is the differnce between whiffletree, singletree and a doubletree?
I'm going to assume you're refering to their use with draught animals. A wiffletree may be a singletree, doubltree, tripletree being a horizontal bar that couples the traces of a draught animal to a load. a singletree for one animal, a doubletree would likely have two singletrees attached in conjunction with two draught animals to equalize the load.

I'm with you. WTF was that about?
When you find out let me know as well.
I can see some people are not country boys.
Origin of whiffletree alteration of whippletree first known use: circe 1806. Singletree first known use of 1841.
Whiffletree is use in N.E. State.Singletree is use down in the South. Swing bar that connects a animal harness to a Vehicle ( as a cart ) or a plow... called also ...Whippletree.
Been useing them for 80 years. Have a nice day.
I know--I know. A single tree is one tree. A double tree is two trees. A whiffletree tree is a tree that struck out and is dead. Right?
I dug up a lot of those harness parts when using a metal detector along the old Erie Canal here in NYS - before they turned those portions of the canal into a State Park. Then removing anything like that became a no-no.
