Anyone remember the short lived RCA video disk player? With the movie recorded on what was basically a 12-14” hard shell floppy disk? And when I bought my first RCA vhs player, a blank tape cassette was $18!

I do. I'm not sure we have it anymore, but I do remember them. Star Wars was the first disc we bought with it, too.

I was doing some cleaning and came across the old Sony Mavica digital camera I used at work. A whopping 1.3 mp sensor that recorded onto a 3.5” floppy disk. A disk would hold 6 photos. I think we paid something like $700-$800 for that jewel. Actually the images weren’t as bad as you would expect by today’s standards. Also, I’m old enough to remember when floppy disks were actually floppy and 5-1/4”.

I have one sitting on the shelf behind me, a MVC-CD400. It was a great camera with a nice Carl Zeiss lens. I still use it on occasion just for the heck of it!

Yup, used them on a DEC PDP-11, along with RK-05 disk packs.

Many moons ago (1977) while working at DEC in NJ I set up an ATSC (Automated Traffic Surveillance Control) system on the NJ Turnpike using PDP-8’s. The system identified traffic problems and rotated signs between the inner and outer lanes on the turnpike near Newark airport to ease the flow of traffic. The state highway patrol on the turnpike (unknowingly to me) used the system to identify speed traps, so if you ever got a speeding ticket on the turnpike you can blame me.

Mine is in a cardboard box. It has ONE original battery, the second battery will not take a charge. I tried to purchase replacement batteries but the camera will NOT recognize them. I tried to send them back but the seller just gave me my money back with No return required. They camera still takes pictures and I still have some disks.

If you would list this for sale on UHH, I will gladly purchase it. I refuse to do business on ebay or Pay-Pal.

Or larger. Some of the IBM and other mainframes would accept 12" - 18" floppies. Which were.

I had the RCA "CD" 12" Video Disk Player. The "CD" was Capacity Discharge. The disk was a large phonograph using a CD technology to read the groves...

Oh common guys, surely somebody remembers programing a Texas Instrument's computer with a B&W 12" TV as a monitor with a cassette tape as a hard drive? Anybody?

I remember differently. I had a TI-99 and a color TV and a cassette tape recorder. The TI-99 has color not just B&W.

The first floppy disks were 8" and held 80 KB and it was read-only IBM brought them to market in 1971. They cost $4.50 at Radio Shack

IBM was the first to make hard drives. They used to be called Winchester disks, and held 30 mb of fixed storage and 30 mb of removable storage. And yes, it was named after the rifle the Winchester Lever Action .30/30. Before that in 1953 they invented a storage computer the RAMAC, which was 5 mb and took up an entire room for the supporting electronics. That was 2 years after I was born.

I guess that that makes you not quite as old as me . . .
