Diwali informally signals the onset of winter, here in India. Part of Diwali celebrations is Rangoli -- 'rang' (pronounced as in 'rung') means colour, and the 'oli' bit signifies that it's an activity...it's a girls' / ladies' speciality, but the custom seems to be gradually dying out in the cities. Happened to be out for a walk, saw Rangoli activity going on, asked permission (readily granted) and shot these...

That rocked! :-)

Page 5: Gee, Frederica, I'm blushing under my natural tan ! Compared to your eloquence, artistic abilities and encyclopedic knowledge about poetry and things around us (love your naming each and every bird you photograph), I am a philistine. Yet I am strangely happy at your words and, of course, those of the inimitable Roadrunner. Thank you - from the bottom of my heart - for appreciating my small efforts.

MG Thank you for the great start to the weekend. You really have some excellent images there...as I was looking I was thinking... DANG what can I do different. HAHAH

Subroto...the cultural sharing is just fabulous...when you are finished with us, we should have a pretty good idea what life is like in your part of the world. You have shared with us the destitute, the crowds, the wealth and the beauty....
Subroto...The first deep snow is my favorite. When i was working it meant NO SCHOOL, and all that white is so pretty and so cleansing. And then the crocuses pop up purple and yellow right through a snow, somtimes..so there is a lot to like, but there is nothing as pleasurable as that first warm spring day when you can look forward to another season.

Lass....burrrrrrrrrrr nice images on page 3

PGUY...looks like a nice light snow...i got one too to show.
girl has to get up really early or stay up really late to get a jump on you all.

we already had our first snow and the christmas cactus is starting to bloom
MG Thank you for the great start to the weekend. ... (show quote)

Page 3: Thank you Nan. I have tried my best to give you all a glimpse of the real India, minus the hype...luck has played no small role in this. Yet, I have only managed to scratch the surface - there's too much and my resources are too limited - for me to cover it all (wish I could !) Still, I'll keep my eyes peeled and the powder dry for whenever opportunity presents itself.
Liked your poetic description of the first deep snowfall and the first glorious spring day very much. After a hard winter, I can imagine the joy that much-awaited day brings to you all in the cold north.

"Subroto I must imitate the others about your ability to explain with such nice words, which you play with as teenagers do with their I-Pods or whatever they're called, and your open heartedness of helping us learn your culture....

A phrase that I use,

''Anyone who sepaks with a foreign accent knows sometheng that I do not''

And I am always anxious to learn....Thank you so much..Jim

You are a worthy act to follow and to quote , Jim. Well said and expressed. Suborto, I am very appreciative of your visual sharing of your homeland. visual learning at its best!
A daily feast for our eyes!

Andrew a.k.a. Toothmaker - these 2 images are perfect for today's challenge! I was looking for leaves on the ground like your first photo! But, we've just had too much wind around here lately. Nature's leaf blower ~ (pg. 5)

Last week we had a nice little snow storm, OKAY, the biggest storm in a long time. We got over 16 inches in downtown Salt Lake, and over 4 feet in the mountains. So lets all get the heavy coats out, and how a snow ball fight?

Yesterday it warmed up some, so most of it is gone. I'll check back in later today, I'm off and running as usual this morning.

well don't kiss cows in that weather, your lips may freeze to the cow

Lass, I love that saying.. never have heard it before.

Janet, you are so funny. Now I'm picturing Lass frozen to the cow and Janice looking on wide eyed in amazement.
