How old was this person, not sure if it changes opinions. I always thought if youre out in public you have NO expectations of privacy. Minors might be different
You can sell prints. But if she is recognizable in the print, and you want to use it for commercial purposes, you will need a signed model release from her.

The age of the person (under 18) has a slight affect on the court's opinions, but not much in public places and no commercial issues. The depiction of a child in a derogatory way could be an issue. But from what the OP said, this was not his case. Therefore, public domain with no expectations of privacy would be the rule. Free use of the photograph, with no commercial use issues, would also be the norm. What Linda put out is pretty much the norm.
Assuming it was a PUBLIC beach.... or at least you were shooting from a public right of way... NO PROBLEM displaying the photo for all to see except for commercial purposes (which would require a model release from recognizable persons in the image[/i].
Legally in most states you would have to provide a model release form to the subject. But if you don't plan on publishing or selling it I don't thind you have anything to worry about.
I was taking shots at Driftwood beach on Jekyll Island. The place a has a monochromatic, almost post apocalyptic feel to it. I was actually trying to shoot around the people on the beach. There was an older man with grey hair and grey clothes who had his back to me who I knew would be in the pic. Into this scene of grey driftwood, beige sand and grey water walked a young girl with beautiful red hair and a red dress. She's completely in focus. I wasn't trying to shoot her- she walked into the frame. What is my responsibility in using this photo? I'm not a professional. I don't sell my prints. I might want to enter this into a juried show some time.

If she’s recognizable, be safe and get a signed released.
Strangers aren't going to sign any paper. PERIOD. Excuse me sir you photobombed my photo and made it better. Can you sign this paper so I can sell this photo of you and NOT compensate you. Once the release is signed you can sell it even though that wasn't your orginal intent. Once they turn you down you better not make that photo public
