Going to Flamingo Gardens this morning. Was planning to take d500 with 70-300 FX lens and Sigma 17-70mm lens. But now wondering if gear is too heavy…Thinking that I might be better off with my Nikon z50 and the 16-50 and 50-250mm kit lenses. Will I have enough reach with the 50-250?

Yes. You will be fine with the Z50 and the 16-50 and the 50-250. You can always crop a little in post. Go have fun and come back with some amazing images.

Fifty mm difference could be easily made up with your feet (in many circumstances), You would be fine either way, but the lighter/newer kit could be more enjoyable.....enjoy the outing!!

As I recall, most shots will be at at a fairly short range so there is little need for a long lens. The 50-250 or even just the 16-50 should work fine. On the other hand, you will no doubt drive to Flamingo Gardens and park your car in the lot. When I was there you paid an entrance fee but that was good for the day and you could come and go as you pleased. So you could pick what seems to be the best lens and if you find otherwise just go out to your car and change to another lens.

The difference between 300 and 250 is quite minor.

Possibly not with respect to weight, however.

D500 and 70-300, definitely, I have been there. And no, it is not that heavy.
