Is Paris safe enough to carry a full frame camera?

The worst places in Paris for pick pocketing and bag grabs are: the RER train from Charles de Gaulle airport to center city Paris, Metro interchange stations, and any crowds such as around the Eiffel Tower or lines to get into museums.

The neighborhood of the Moulin Rouge is dicey.

Lock your excess gear inside your suitcase when you are out of your hotel room.

Paris is a great city. Enjoy your trip.

I haven't been to Paris for a few years but I used to go every year. no trouble, ever
with my camera. Of course, I carried a fixed blade knife on my belt and in those days I was
6'1", 190 and in pretty good shape. (I'm 90 now)
I always loved Paris, both the food and the women were so far
superior to London back then that it's hardly worth mentioning.
(And superior to NYC, Chicago and LA for that matter!
And to my hometowns of Ytown and Columbus OH.
In those days and IMHO anyway.) D^mn, I loved those Parisian women!
Food was pretty good too! <g> (I found a little side street restaurant where
both the food and the prices were excellent. Ahh, to be in Paris now that April's here.)

Harry PS That guy who said that April is the cruelest month, probably never spent
it in Paris!

Really Parisans are not fat and they said although they eat a lot of fat they don't raise their animals with hormone. They said it's the hormone in US meat that makes us fat.

I've been to Europe about a dozen times to cities in England, Ireland and Germany. The difference isn't hormones in meat. The difference is in how much Europeans walk and burn calories. Americans are far more dependent on automobiles to get around and tend to eat more calories than necessary. I ALWAYS lost weight after spending a month in Europe, and I ate plenty.

Really old stuff but I was in Paris with my girlfriend in 1970. I had a Leica and she had a Nikon rangefinder and we carried them all over the city and never had a problem. OK so things have changed but just had to remember a great trip.

You may want to consider a smaller camera body. In a studio, your equipment is safe, however, outside all bets are off. Paris has changed dramatically, the economic gap is larger between the "have not" and the "have".

The only place that's really safe is your basement.

That advisory is almost 4 months old. I checked recently and anyone form a "green" country (America included) can enter France without the need for a COVID test as long as they are vaccinated. I'm double-boosted, so I think I'll be alright. I have a harness and the strap that came with the camera. I walked a few miles today to check out the weight since I've been lazy recently and haven't taken many pics. Next time I'll replace the strap with the pieces for the vest and see how it goes. It was a Godsend last year at a week-long aviation convention I try to attend on a regular basis. My brother-in-law is a retired cop. Your next to last comment made me think of the early scene in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" :)

I plan on going to the Moulin Rouge the night of my 59th birthday. It's one of the optional (expensive) ad-ons the tour company offers. Last time I went on a trip it was with Overseas Adventure Travel to Israel in 2016. This time I'm going with Grand European Travel and the actual company doing the trip, though, is Trafalgar. They also do the tour in Switzerland I go on right after (the next day). I had to get transport and one night lodging since it wasn't a planned double adventure (i.e. the next tour starts from the same city the first tour ends at). Got a sale price on a one-way flight from Paris to Zurich with an upgraded seat I couldn't pass up and one night in an AirBnB with a local family

For what it's worth, here are two cents from someone who has spent the last 12 years as a correctional officer.

Heed the advice in previous posts that make sense to you but above all, you need to practice "situational awareness".

My wife and I have travelled to Ireland (Northern and well, you know), Britain, France, The Netherlands and during the last 10 years or so I have shot with a D 7100 and for the last 3 years or so, a D 750. I do not do anything special except that I have NOTHING that screams Nikon on it unless you are close enough to read but I stay away from people and generally have a minimum of 1 family member around me to help watch.

Again, utilize situational awareness and that will be most of your battle. There are no guarantees in this life and there are places right here in the U.S. that I would not wander around in alone with either camera. Go, have fun, and take lots of pics to share.

I've traveled in Europe a lot. I considered myself a savvy traveler.
1. Try to blend in, don't look like a tourist, especially and American tourist.
2. Don't display your camera.
3. Don't carry more cash than you are willing to give to someone. I got hit by a pickpocket in the subway. On video. The French Gendarmerie were little help. Could not access the video without a subpoena!
4. Attach your wallet to yourself with steel cable.
5. Split your cash in a couple places.
6. Email a copy of your passport to yourself so you can access a copy in case they get your passport.
7. Avoid crowded places (like the subway).
8. Make sure you have your cc numbers and phone numbers.
9. Traveler's Cheques are a thing of the past. Many places won't or are very reluctant to take them. And they are a pain to recover funds if stolen.
10. They (the crooks) are professionals.

I have a Sony a99ii and I have down sized to a Sony RX10M4 and I love it. 28 - 600mm all in one lens nothing to change a 1 inch sensor is the drawback along with a 20mp but I love it. So when I go traveling I use the RX10M4 flashes work along with the Sony controllers and if you have any 72mm filters they will work with the RM10M4 camera. This is my opinion.

Some travel bags now have a steel wire in the strap. We've always found the major tourist areas of Paris and other French cities to be relatively safe with sensible cautions in crowded areas. Contrary to what is often said, we've found the people of Paris to be helpful and friendly if you don't act like a horse's patooty.

There are a lot of experienced travelers on this site, and I don't recall seeing anyone who has actually lost a camera to theft. Add my name to that list, though my interests and travel have been heavily tilted toward wilderness and wildlife areas, where the bigger enemy is the environment.
If you're truly worried about theft or loss, buy insurance! I have chosen not to do that though, and the money I have NOT spent on premiums would buy a complete new kit with a great deal left over.
