I'm looking for a new Printer that can print

a few hundred 4" x 6" pictures per day.

I am retired, love photography, and used to run a residential co-ed camp in Northern Ontario for over 40 years, and during those years, when I could fnd the time, I shot many pictures, and at the end of each period of camp, would show a slide show, with music, to the entire camp the last night before the kids would go home. This is where I honed my love of photography, and tuned my technical knowledge.

Now, during my summers, I still go to camp, and am the photographer, shooting from 600 to 1000 pics/day, edit them in LightRoom, and post many of them so parents of campers and staff can see what is happening around camp each day.

I have also decided from day one that since campers have to be "screen free" while at camp, they never get to see any of the pics, so I have been printing pics daily, from around 200 4" x 6"; 20 8.5" x 11"; and a few 13" x 19", especially the ones that have the entire cabin included so one can make out the individual campers/staff, but as this summer is coming up, I have been thinking that there just is not enough time in each day to continue to do all this and have been looking for a printer that can print much fast than what I have now, ( Last year I used my Epson ET-7750 + ET -8550, and when I just did not have enough time, I used my larger printer, my 24" HP Z9+, where I would print many 4" x 6" prints and then trim, which also took a lot of time).

Girls & Guys,

I have been reading UH for a long time now, have received much info from all of you, and am now looking specifically for some help myself. Looking forward to hearing from a few of you soon

Stephen

I would look at DNP event printers. They are designed to crank out hundreds of prints.

The DS-RX1HS can print two 2x6 strips, 4x6, 5x7 and 6x8 prints.

You can buy the printer and a box or 4x6 paper as a kit, for around $1000.

I think @jcboy3 is on to something - that DNP is obviously a dye sublimation printer, and that is thekind of printer that makes sense for your application. I used to have a Kodak dye sub - not made any longer - but this DNP company seems to specialize in them.

Know that dye sub printers require the use of proprietary paper/ink sets - the ink is actually on a ribbon that is the width of the paper (the ink is actually solid and 'sublimates' to a gas when heated - that's how the tech works). This means that every print, regarless of colors or coverage, costs the same. In the case of the DS620A it would seem that amounts to about 25¢ a print. And dye sub prints have the lok and feel of paper prints from a photo processor rather than ink jet.

I like the dye sub as a photo printer because it has a fixed cost per print and it doesn't have the clogged head problem if not use frequently like the inkjet. However, the problem is that when they discontinued the printer generally they don't make the ribbon and paper for it any more.

WoW!! I am getting a few replies, with a few suggestions, which I really appreciate.

I think that the dye sub is a good suggestion, but I do not like the fact that when it will be discontinued, I will be in trouble.

Just heard from another friend whom suggest that I look into an Epson SureLab d1070, but do not know a thing about it. Anyone have any experience with an Epson SureLab before?

Not an answer to your question, but in my younger days I spent a lot of time in Northern Ontario on and around Lake Temagami at Camp Keewaydin. Are you anywhere near Lake Temagami? Love that part of the world! (In the summer!)

Hi Carl S

You are correct, this is not helping me with my printer choice, but would love to talk about the camps I am at now, and the village of Halliburton has been part of my camp journey for almost 50 years, and I have been in camping for more than 60 years. The other camp I went to was near the village of Huntsville!

I need a lake in my life and those 2 Northern Ontario areas certainly have met a need that I seem to have.

Stay healthy!

You will be in trouble when any printer is discontinued, if the company stops providing supplies. DNP is a company that caters to professionals.

Well, you are jumping from $1000 to $2400 (or more) with the Epson.

But are the cost for expendables, i.e. ink & paper, much cheaper with the DNP or Epson solution?
