Hello fellow hoggers,
Today I was looking at UHH and my mouse stopped working. I figured the batteries needed replacement (simple, right?). Turns out that one of the two DURACELL 2025 batteries had leaked and was almost impossible to remove.
I cleaned the terminal with CAIG DeoxiT and the mouse was saved from permanent damage.
Beware. I've had this happen with Duracells before and try to avoid them. These batteries were installed and the mouse in used daily, so I thought things were okay. I always purchase ENERGIZER or Ray-O-Vac batteries.
No more Duracells
Interesting--I have had a Duracell battery fail in that manner.
Wow, I've only had two AAs leak in fourteen years.
And those were in something rarely used.
We go through a bunch.
I'll continue to use them as my preferred brand.

Interesting. A few months ago, my remote garage door opener stopped working. Figuring that the batteries were low, I opened the case and discovered the same thing had occurred. Only, I wasn't able to permanently fix the damage. I cleaned the corrosion as best I could, but the unit stopped working again in short order. So, I sent Duracell an email explaining the problem and included a photo of the damage. They promptly acknowledged my note, and asked a few more questions. To my surprise, I received a $35 check from them a few weeks later to cover the cost of a replacement unit. I've been using Duracell's for years and this is the first time I've seen a battery leak.
Every battery that ever leaked on me was a Duracell. I haven't used them in over over 10 years.
In the electronics industry they frequently get called Duraleak!
Same problem with me and Duracell. I didn't give it a thought but now with many others having the same problem Duracell just went out the door

Agree - I can’t count the number of Duracells that have leaked. I now use rechargeable Eneloops in everything calling for AA and AAA batteries.
I switched to a INPHIC re-chargeable Blue Tooth re-chargable mouse about a year ago and I love it. A charge lasts along time. Amazon $11.99

I believe that 2025 batteries are lithium batteries. I've never had a lithium battery of any kind leak, including those expensive Energizer AA and AAA batteries. On the other hand, every brand of alkaline batteries I've ever used has leaked, Duracell, Energizer and generic. I don't store batteries inside of electronics with the exception of things that need them to work like clocks.
It seems to me that AA Alkaline batteries leak are more frequent in recent times. Before it's because you left the batteries in your device way too long and the battery went dead and leaked. But in recent time about a year or 2 I found them leaked even in their original packaging and still deliver voltage.
I am not sure but I think they changed the formula and the change was due to some environment issue. I heard that even alkaline batteries have some mercury in them to prevent leakage. I think they stopped using mercury altogether which is the reason for the frequent leaks.

The only Dura cell battery I have had leak was in a cheap flashlight that I lost and then found 3 years later when I was cleaning out a car I was selling.
I have had several past experiences with Duracell. They have been great. I had a Sunpak 511 strobe from the '70's. It was the best strobe I have ever owned. It had multiple power supplies; (4) double AA, six volt Pak or 110 House current. I had installed 4AA's one leaked. I contacted Duracell and they ask me to send them the flash, which I did. A few weeks later I received back the original flash + a check for reimbursement to cover the cost of a new flash. I only buy Duracell; nothing else.

17 yrs ago I took this picture in our local Home Depot, The reason at the time when I took the picture was that it validated my preference and dedication to Energizer batteries. I had problems with other brands leaking and Energizer batteries just lasted longer. At the time apparently, Energizers batteries were selling 4 to1 over Duracell.
I gave up a few years ago. I used to use Duracells but there were too many leakages over the years. So I switched to rechargeable Eneloops and every year I go through all the items with batteries and refresh the charge.
