iPhone with gimbal?

I have fx & dx cameras and a handful of prime and zoom lenses. I enjoy the hobby of taking pictures with both of them. However my iPhone 13 pro max does a great job as well. Different experience for sure but acceptable results 90% of the time. Wondering what experience users have using an iPhone with a Gimbal and if pictures look better by how much.

I will still use my other cameras when I need a zoom or tracking sports.

If, like you said, you'll use your other cameras to track sports, you don't need a gimbal.
However, I have a bridge to sell you cheap in Brooklyn, let me know.

A gimbal is really only necessary for smooth video. In any case the iPhone has some of the best stabilization in the business and doesn't really need a gimbal for most of what you might shoot. A gimbal always has deadband, which is the amount you must move it before it starts to respond, so it is difficult to use if you need really precisely timed moves. If you are only doing still I can think of no reason at all to have a gimbal.

A friend of mine bought a DJI Osmo mobile. I tried using it once for taking movies with my IPhone. I didn't like it at all. I found it is much easier for me to just use the IPhone.

I also have the dji osmo3I only used it once. You can’t take stills with it. I purchased it due to a left side stroke. I can’ support my camera,so purchased the new iPhone and was looking for a one handed device to allow me to take pictures again. My Osmo3 collecting dust.

I'm fascinated by gimbal technology. I don't have the Osmo 3. Instead I have the Osmo Pocket 2, a complete gimbaled camera system. I'm having as much or more fun with it than any camera I've owned. Also in that race for photographic fun is the DJI Mini 2 gimbaled aerial camera. Between the two, some of my other cameras are getting a well deserved rest.

If you are a gear headed photographer, I encourage you to spend some money on one or two DJI products!

The iPhone 13/13Pro and Pro Max are fantastic cameras, with built-in image stabilization. I don’t think a gimbal would be of much use. The only way I can think of to improve images would be to mount it on a tripod and use a remote trigger, to eliminate any camera movement at all, however there is no provision for turning off the IBIS when you use a tripod. I doubt it would make any difference anyway. Using a gimbal could be a source of frustration.

I've had the Dji Osmo gimble for a few years now, and I have to say, I am still in love with it! I don't use it all the time, (or most of the time), or even what I would consider "often". But when I do take it out, I always have that extra little bit of fun using it. I appreciate these things are not for everybody, and some people hate them, or see them as a waste of time and money, but I've actually had some surprisingly good results with mine, and like I said, it's actually fun for me to use. Just a thought, for a relatively simple device, there is somewhat of a "learning curve" to actually get the most out of it, and for some people, (not all I'm sure ),but I suspect they haven't all taken the time to figure out all the little nuances to get the best from it. Anyway, as I said, they are not for everyone, just continue to shoot with whatever you like, in whatever manner you enjoy using your favorite equipment! Have a great day guys, keep shooting, and stay safe.
Ray.

Gimbals are used for video. Filmmakers who are shooting video on the run need a gimbal or some form of stabilization to avoid shaky footage.
No need for a gimbal for still photography.
