I took this photo several years ago with a Canon Rebel XT and probably a kit 50mm lens. Not the best equipment.

I like the composition but have had difficulty in editing (currently using ON1 Photo Raw 2022). Any thoughts on whether this photo is worth saving and can be improved?

This is a lovely photo. To me, I would not change or edit it. Put it in a frame and hang it on the wall.
Thanks for your help.

Many thanks. Picture salvaged but not enough resolution for a 16x20.

Because you asked for help I send you what I have done with your photo. Remember that it is my style and that in no way can it be to your liking. What I'm just trying to show you is the ability to enhance your photo the way you want. With the original .CRW it would be better

I like your edit. There are so many ways to edit a photo, and the beauty is that it’s all a matter of personal taste.

Yes, it's just a matter of personal taste. I stayed at the Grand Canyon in 2015 and will be there at the end of April. But I can tell you that it is one of the most difficult places to take photos that I have ever seen.

I totally agree. The Grand Canyon is so immense that it is overwhelming. I've gotten some good photos of isolated scenes, like a tree with a good background, but I believe it is almost impossible to portray the vastness of the Grand Canyon in a photograph.

I think I forgot to mention that the photo I submitted was taken from a helicopter. Perhaps the vibrations in the helicopter contributed substantially to the inadequate quality of the photo.

And here's the rest of the story.

My final edit, changing the size to 8x10 so I could print a 16x20, is attached. I loaded the photo onto a website, Photography.com, on which I have ordered several metal prints in the past, and began the process of finalizing my project on the website. I received a warning message that the quality of the print was not good. I have abandoned the project. Perhaps I could have printed at 8x10 with no problem, but I like bigger prints.

As I mentioned in my initial message, at the time, several years ago, I was using my first digital camera, a Canon Rebel XT.

I still haven't figured out how to retrieve my initial, RAW image for you, but it seems irrelevant at this time.

Thanks for your comments and editing suggestions. I had fun sharing ideas with you.

Thanks Joe. I like the composition myself and may try to print in a smaller format.

I use Luminar 4. Try adding more contrast and midtones

I think that the biggest problem with this picture is lack of sharpness. You can color correct and apply other settings, but the bottom line is that it doesn't look sharp enough. I think that anyone close to an 8x10 print would notice this. Is there ANY way you can dig up the original file? I've taken pictures with cameras having 5 and 6 megapixels that were much sharper than this. Yours has 8. I think that something happened in the process of processing it, and if you're made changes to a jpeg over and over, that could contribute to lack of sharpness.

I believe that the problems are: 1) shot years ago with a “starter camera, and 2) shot from a helicopter with substantial vibration.

The original RAW file was on an old computer which I no longer own. If I instruct my computer to delete all edits, will I then have the original file?

I honestly don't know. There are too many variables. Were your pictures backed up to the cloud? Where was your library and was it moved to the new computer? If your new computer has no connection with the files on your older one and you started on the new one with an edited file, then I would guess no. I don't suppose you saved the SD card the picture was taken on.

I unsuccessfully searched on my computer and hard drives for the original RAW file. That photo was taken so many years ago that can't remember my process, if I even had one, to save files.

I have not been in the habit of saving SD cards. I move photos to my computer and then reformat the cards for reuse.

I have enjoyed and really appreciate all of the comments and efforts to help me with this photo.
