It comes with the 18-200mm lens. Any opinions on the lens or should I just buy the body. I have a Canon already and several lenses. I tried it as a display I liked the feel of it. Focal point focus seamed good at all ranges. I don't expect 200mm to be tack sharp but the range seems to be a good for a walk around lens and then some, will eliminate the need to change out lenses as often. I don't need it because I have the range covered by other lenses but I liked it. Based on in store trial I can't decide. Anyone have it, love it, hate it ??

I have a 18-135 that I really like. I can see where the extra length would be nice and thought about getting a Tamron that is I believe goes to 235. As to your question I would check around maybe Ebay and B&H Photo to see what a lens in that range would cost you. Kinda of sounds like you are trying to talk yourself into not buying it - and you are on the losing side.

I also have the 18-135 mm lens and love the versatility of it. I recently purchased the canon 70-300 L series lens and love it. It's a bit pricey but the pictures are fantastic.

I have the 18-200mm, which came as part of the 60d kit. I chose it because I wanted a good walk around body/lens combination. The lens lists for $600 but only added $300 to the cost of the body along. Can't beat that.

The question here is, what other lenses do you have? If you already have 1 or more lenses that cover this zoom range, or thereabouts, I would save my money and pass on the 18-200. I have no personal experience with it, but I've read various reviews and real-world stories and it's an average piece of glass. I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to capture grand photos, and possibly even win a Pulitzer, but as a zoom, it's got a wide range (which translates to compromises in quality for a consumer lens) and even boxed retail it's only a $700 lens.

Many people with the 60 find the combination of the new 18-55mm IS and the 55-250mm IS to be an almost unbeatable combo in terms of value for the money.

Plus, you can get the 70-200 f/4 L non-IS these days for less than a grand, if you look carefully...

I have a 60d with a 28-135 IS. Also an assortment of other Canon lenses. By far, the best camera I've ever owned. Next option would be the 7D, then 5Dmk II, though much pricier. :)

NotnoBuddah,
I think your right, in going through my lenses I have zooms but they start at 28mm & 55mm and they do go to 250mm & 300. I have a 2x converter but we know the focus lacks with that or let's say I need more practice. For the money as part of the kit it is well worth it because they add on $300 for the lens and it will give me more versatility. I do party events part time and a lot of pics just for me.

I agree on the added price. I have the T1i now but I need to keep a second body for work. My last was 10 meg and in reproduction there is to much grain. So I need to stay equal (no fun) or go up. I like the 60D and think it would be an easy learn for me. Thank you

If your right I have the combo of lenses that will make me happy. As far as saving for the L glass I also have a husband to keep happy so just under a grand after buying a 2nd camera affects his happiness level. I am fornunate that most anything Canon looks the same to him so my collection has grown. I am going to go for it and buy the camera & lens combo it's a good value. My son has been working as my assistant and has a good eye. He is saving now to chip in for his own Canon 60D as his Christmas gift. So I have use for my extra lenses at some point.

In that case, I'd get the package, and give your son the 18-200 at Christmas.

Go out on the net and read several non-Canon reviews on the Canon 18-200. I did, at B&H and Adorama, and about half of them were bad ... not sure what Canon did wrong, but they missed the boat on this lens.

Maybe I should look into the 18- 135 the reviewers seem happy with that. I will check the other sites for feed back but ultimately getting a kit lens for the lesser price seems to be the best option knowing my son is getting the canon and plans to continue to work with me. I have the zoom lenght in my other lenses and my 2x. I just started here this time with all photo users that have a love for it. My first 35mm was the Canon AE1 still the metal body. Now I'm dating myself but I still have my original enlarger, used when I got it I should sell it on e-bay under antiques.

I like the 18mm starting point I have a 28-135 but it doesn't suit my need as an everyday. I have the 70-300mm those are more for me for personal use. I want something more versatile for work

The AE 1 was my first SLR too, came with a 50mm prime lens and a 70-200 zoom, loved that zoom. You never forget your first time with anything ... LOL,

Now I'm saving up for another 70-200, only a 2.8 L this time.
