Realising how much you like these puzzles, here's another one for all you clever people out there:

I borrowed $50 from my mum and $50 from my dad
I bought a shirt costing $97
After the purchase, I had $3 left
I returned $1 to my dad and $1 to mum, and kept $1 for myself
I now owe my mum $49
I now owe my dad $49
In total I owe $98
Adding in the $1 I kept for myself totals only $99

So where is the missing $1?

And remember no Googling or asking a nearby child

The "missing" $1 is in her purse. It was "stolen" from the $3 that was left, and is owed to one of her parents that she borrowed it from.

I borrowed $50 from my mum and $50 from my dad
I bought a shirt costing $95
After the purchase, I had $5 left
I returned $1 to my dad and $2 to mum, and kept $2 for myself
I now owe my mum $48
I now owe my dad $48
In total I owe $96
Adding in the $1 I kept for myself totals only $97

So where is the missing $3?

Likewise
I borrowed $50 from my mum and $50 from my dad
I bought a shirt costing $59
After the purchase, I had $41 left
I returned $20 to my dad and $20 to mum, and kept $1 for myself
I now owe my mum $30
I now owe my dad $30
In total I owe $60
Adding in the $1 I kept for myself totals only $61

So where is the missing $39?

My Dad told me this “riddle” when I was about 8 yrs old but involved 3 guys paying $10 each for a hotel room, a desk clerk and a bell hop told to return $1 each to the guests all resulting in a missing $1.
That was over 60 years ago. I’m glad to see people are still looking for that $1. 😂

You returned $1 to each parent - that in effect made the amount borrowed $98 - the $100 is no longer relevant...

Item cost $97
In your pocket $1
Total from borrowed = $98
Total borrowed = $98
Missing - 0

Do that 97 times and you can buy another shirt.

No missing dollar
Money spent $49 by mum and $49 by dad = $98
$98 goes to shirt - $97 and $1 kept by purchaser of shirt = $98

Sort of like the 11 finger demonstration: Count your fingers backwards -- 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, and 5 make 11!

XII
VII

Seven is half of twelve.

Cover the bottom half of the Roman numeral for twelve.
