I have a FF, crop and a RX100Vii. I have blown up shots from the RX100 to 9x13 and there is only a slight difference between the same shot with my FF. The camera is probably the #1 best travel camera. Slips into a shirt pocket, you have a Zeiss 24-200 zoom that can't be beat on sharpness and you have a flash. A bag full of equipment in your pocket.

I have a Sony RX10IV and like it very much if that qualifies for the answer you are looking for. I recommend it highly for a vacation and travel camera.

I have one too and highly endorse Dennis' recommendation.

Absolutely it's good enough. I puchased a RXVI about 1 1/2 years ago as a backup to my FF DSLR for landscape use and it's IQ is almost up to the DSLR. Only on very large prints is there a detectable difference (referring to landscapes only). I doubt there is a pocketable camera with better IQ. The only downside, at least for my use, is the cost.

I just returned from a two week vacation. My wife took her new Nikon Z50 and I took my Sony RX100Vii. I have 2 DSLRs and 2 mirrorless that I left at home. I was helping my wife with her camera. One difference I noticed, she would have to stitch shots in post processing to do a panoramic shot where there is a setting in the Sony to do one. When I travel again, I may take the Nikon Zfc but the Sony will go too!

It is a great pocketable camera. I happen to have the RX100m5 24-70mm f1.8 vs the mvii with the 24-200 f2.8. I also have the RX10iv for that longer reach. Like others have said....the RX100 series is great. This star shot was shot last fall with my RX100m5

I had been thinking of renting a 28-300 to go with my a99ii for an upcoming 3-wk European vacation, but now thinking about the RX10 IV...nearly 2x the price, but lighter than a ff/lens combo. I wasn't happy with the used Lumix FZ-200 I bought 6 yrs ago for Israel...maybe the Sony would be a vast improvement?

Yes, yes, and yes. I own it, I like it, and it is good enough for travel. The big exception is wildlife, where a longer lens is desirable. For wildlife, if you want or need a light weight rig, the RX 10 iv is a better choice, but will not fit in a pocket.

I shoot an RX10MIV mainly for one certain situation, shooting wildlife from a kayak. It’s been great for that because the ability to get shots that no other bridge camera could get where my other equipment would be to cumbersome to use. Their are some caveats, number one being that since I’m often shooting at 1600-3200 ISO with that 1” sensor everything has to go through Topaz Denoise. What sets the camera apart from other superzoom 1” sensor cameras is the Zeiss lens that gives me a 24-600mm FF equivalent zoom range with 600mm being at f/4, plus the same excellent focus tracking as their A9 and 24 fps frame rate. All that being said, if I’m not in a kayak I’m using something else that has better IQ and I just enjoy shooting more. Anyway, the RX10MIV isn’t cheap but it really separates itself from the field of superzoom, especially for wildlife or sports. I’m not sure that’s true of the RX100VII. It seems to be a fine camera and I’m sure it will suit your needs, but I don’t see what separates it from comparable 1” sensor pocket cameras from other manufacturers. I know there are a couple of Lumix models with similar features that can be had for several hundred dollars less.

While the RX100 vii is a popular model, I'm quite happy with my Lumix DMC-ZS100. There is also the Lumix DC-ZS200. The FZ200 is a completely different animal with only a tiny 12 MP 1/2.3" sensor.

I had the RX100-I early on and loved it, then traded it for the RX100-IV, which I continue to use as my "walking around" camera. This is an excellent travel camera. Just be sure to take extra batteries and storage media.

Small, convenient but I find it hard to hold still 'cause it's so light and small...

When I travel in Europe I carry a Rx100 va and a Rx100 vi. The six is my all around camera and I keep the 5a as a backup and for use in lowlight and indoor situations. When traveling in parks and in Africa I substitute an hx99 for the 5a to get the extra zoom. Obviously I place a high value on light weight equipment, but the IQ of the Rx100s is excellent. I do not think it is a great sacrifice when compared to my DSLR kits.

I love my rx100 vii camera. Agree with all of the comments so far, but one not mentioned. The rx100 has a pop up viewfinder with diopter correction. As I frequently like to pull it out and shoot without having to go from sunglasses to readers doe a quick snapshot, I really prefer this. Great walk around, even when I am working with my DSLR for subject specific work

My only negative is I find the menus long and complicated. That said, there is a nice user defined menu where you can consolidate your favorite items for quick access

We’re in Jeckyll Island Georgia and I have my RX100 vii. Takes Amazing pictures…worth every penny! As stated it has a pop up viewfinder that’s incredibly bright. I also got the adapter so I can use a polarizer filter! Couldn’t be happier.
