Cool shot! I have yet to capture it.

Don’t you hate when the clouds roll in just at the wrong time? Of course when we need them they are absent. We do need the rain.
Great shot!
Thanks for the reply GAS496, "right-place, right-time" isn't the end of the equation, especially when you're talking about the weather's interference. I've had some awesome sunsets when I'm shooting the Cougar.

Thanks AzPicLady, surprised that you haven't done it yet. It's always a cool photo to show off to your out-of-state guests.
I live near Four Peaks, only about ten minutes away. I am constantly dancing with the clouds, sun and wind to get the ultimate shot. I shoot 8x10 monochrome film so all has to look perfect in black and white too. Been trying for years to get the perfect shot. Working now on a print of them with the snow from a few weeks ago but the clouds were pretty anemic. You know the saguaros in the foreground and the snowy high peaks in the background. Maybe better clouds next year when it snows again.
As I am writing this I am thinking about how much I would charge for the perfect silver gelatin print like this. People don’t consider the time, money, effort and skill it takes to make the perfect image do they? Well if I ever get one then we will see.
Anyway I see your image has made the big time! Congratulations!!
Very interesting, great photo.
Fantastic capture. I am so glad that you shared this experience. I lived in Arizona for almost 8 years and never heard about this bi-annual event.

Thanks so much for the background on your art GAS496, I know exactly what it is that you're striving for, it's just too bad that you have to wait another year for the conditions to be right.
Some of my Milky Photos can easily consume a hundred hours if I include the time spent on researching the right position from which I set up the tripod to the time I have an image that I can show, share or sell. I've had the last six months to look at some of my prints and now that the season is coming around again, what can I do to improve on it/them. Best of luck......

[quote=Wilderness Images]The Cougar's Shadow in one of the canyons of Superstition Mountain is a bi-annual event, occurring in March and again in September. I have a favorite viewing spot in the desert, about ten minutes drive from my home, so when the conditions are right, I frequently get out there to document the event.
Usually I shoot the cougar over a period of several days to watch how the 'cat' changes from a rough form to one that closely resembles the cougar chasing its prey down through the canyon. This particular shot is still in the rough stage but I had to do the shoot anyway because the weather's-a-changing. From previous years, I'm predicting the 26th and/or the 27th to be the best of form, but we're expecting a week of cloudy sky's and the potential of rain. We desperately need the rain..... but why now????[/quote
Would you please share previous images of the entire sequence? Thanks.
That's so cool. We need the rain, period; we don't get to complain in the Southwest.

The entire Southwest needs the rain and normally love the clouds in our images. Except Jack for his cougar image.
