Here in Maryland in the colonies there is a TV show on our local channel about house hunting in Great Britian called Esvape to the country. Each show involves a person (not an estate agent) show a couple around a particular county. Often times it's a retired couple moving out of London or similar situation. They have say 500,000 pounds to spend and have a list of requirments. They'll want 5 bedrooms, a craft room an office, a large kitchen and such. They'll look at a house with the 5 bedrooms and turn it down because it doesn't havethe 5 bedrooms. Dah! can't they use a bedroom for that. Or they'll be looking at a really nice kitchen that to my wife and looks awesome and some one will say oh just knock a wall out. Hwy does a retired couple need 5 bedrooms unless they're running a B&B or a hotel. Don't they have sofa bed's in GB. Some times they'll have a limited budget and be looking in a very expensive area. I'll one positive thing though they'll always point out how many pubs are in the nearby village. Are they doing this to make the show entertaining ? I'm sure they are but I'd like to know from a local.

Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a reality show. We have home shows like that in this country, and the whole thing is set up ahead of time.

Some people are unnecessarily picky also.
And it doesn't stop at houses...

Only the people who don’t know that all of those “reality shows” are scripted watch them.

Exactly! It doesn't matter to the viewer if the people buy the house or not. Watching the show gives them a view of different areas and different houses.

Many people have been conditioned to watch TV no matter what crap is on.

We watch more shows on PBS (Britmyst, Britcom, ...) than regular TV.

I'm retired and my wife is pretty close to retirement. We live in a house with 6 bedrooms.

One is my office, one is her office, one is a laundry room and houses the router and the printer, one is where we keep all the stuff that would otherwise clutter up the house (it's too late to save the garage). 2 have beds in them.

Its a pretty maddening show with rich cats from the London area selling really hyped price property then moving to rural areas which inflates the cost of rural property so that local people who can never earn as much as Londoners do can't afford to buy houses. Its a pretty boring programme anyway.

I watch it occasionally. Sometimes the Purchasers go back for a 2nd visit - or put in an offer.
But more often they have an idea and let the TV company (BBC) do some groundwork.
Quite often the programme opens up new possibilities that hadn't previously been considered.

I'm retired - and I wouldn't mind moving to a different part of the Country, get rid of my 4 bed and get another 4 bed. Bit of AirBNB might swell the GAS coffers and be most welcome.

I like that me and Mrs. N. have separate 'studies' (not that they look like 'studies' at the moment).

I'll tell you what Starlifter, if I ever make it out of this place or get rid of the sprogs - I'll offer you 10% discount on a stay!

You are so right P... When I was a kid, all that was on tv was "Uncle Milty, (Milton Berle,) and wrestling. Well, wrestling was a TOTAL FAKE, but we still watched it and yelled for the fav. to win. Some of the wrestlers had names like: Gorgeous George, Antonio Rocca, etc. and yes, they were ALL actors.
