This hawk stayed in our backyard for about two hours, probably hunting for unsuspecting squirrels and mice. Had to shoot through the window so not real sharp.
Looks more like a falcon. Very cool.

Even through the window, it looks good!
Thanks, Jim. We actually get one every so often. They are pretty spooky, so hard to shoot. Sometimes I feel like we live in a zoo with squirrels, raccoons, lots of deer, a bobcat and ever so often a bear. Oh well, we are encroaching on their space.
Nice capture but neither a falcon nor a Goshawk. The orange breast and white streak over the red eye are telltale indications of an adult Coopers Hawk.

Where do you see a orange breast?? This is definitely a Goshawk!!
Certainly a Goshawk and a nicely captured one
Nice shot of an apparently difficult to capture bird. I have certainly no idea of what bird it is, not being a birder myself. One suggestion if I may: Cropping out the top 15% or so of the image with the somewhat disturbing background to just below the white blotches would draw one's attention even more to the bird. Congrats on a nice shot. - Joe
I stand corrected. I hadn't enlarge the photo and on my monitor the breast had an orangeish cast.
Nice shot! You are very fortunate to live in an area where there is much wildlife that seems to be comfortable with humans in the neighborhood.

Wow, very cool backyard guest! I wish we had more opportunities in N Calif to see Goshawks. Good catch!
