His use of controlled environment and lighting is obviously very important... "fascinating" is a well-fitted word for this work. As I have often said, why is high school biology boring when images like this are so exciting.
I am reminded of a Twilight video in which the crew crash on a planet of perpetual rain and fungi grow quickly and eventually, reaching a safe dome the mushrooms have beat them to the dome!! Their fate is sealed.
