Neat site. Thanks. I got it bookmarked now.
? Wow. It's crowded. Is this how many planes are in the air?
There is a NATO plane in a holding pattern by Ukraine's western border. Looking further, I see that it's a radar plane, probably a Nimrod. It's doing figure-eights.
And people wonder why I don't fly

Yep. Keeping an eye on those Migs.

So I pulled this up and immediately found an unusual thing: Flair Airlines 8514 was right off our coast - 70 miles southeast of Sanford, Florida, which was its destination from it's departure in Kitchener, Canada - west of Toronto. This flight is apparently now headed to the Fort Lauderdale Airport. The airline website shows that this flight is scheduled daily to Sanford, and does not show any changes in today's flight. As I write this it is off the coast near West Palm Beach - 160 miles past its destination! For some reason it could not land at Sanford. Not an emergency - there are plenty of airports, including MCO (Orlando) within 30 miles of Sanford. Ft Lauderdale is also an international airport, and one that handles many of the smaller airlines, like Sanford. So maybe something happened with customs and immigration being unavailable at Sanford? It might be hard to figure that out.
Wow - at FlightAware there is a graph of altitude and airspeed for the entire flight. It was supposed to land at 9:00 AM - it shows that at 8:50 it slowed down to 121 knots and dropped to 139 feet altitude and then went back up - so it was actually landing at Sanford on schedule and is now headed to Ft Lauderdale.
It just landed at Fort Lauderdale. Interesting... There have been no storms this morning - everything is clear in central Florida, so it was not a weather concern.
