Major Problems With Aperture
Nov 14, 2012 20:02:51   #

I am having problems with files disappearing and other corrupted with the master "missing or off-line" I have been to three "Mac geniuses" and none of them can solve this problem.

When I open my favorite files and try to export them I get this message: The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.

I have tried repairing and rebuilding the data bases without success and am really stressed over losing my favorite images.
Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

WOW. I have never heard of that or experienced it.
Are you running OS X Mountain Lion with all the updates and all the updates for Aperture 3? I wish I could be more help to you. Good luck.

I am running the last OS and NO ONE CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. I may go to Elements next.

Have you tried exporting the files and masters, then import them into a newly created library ??

This happens to me in LightRoom. I think, however it is my fault by moving images and not using LightRoom for the changes. I think I have finally learned what I knew. I have paid the price and am now a believer.

When you import pictures into Aperture, there is a drop-down box "Store Files". Have you been importing with this set to "In the Aperture Library" or "In their current location" ??? If you choose the latter, Aperture simply references the files in the catalog but doesn't touch the files themselves. If you then delete the files that is where you get that message about missing masters. You can't really blame Aperture for this, you do have the choice to put them inside the Aperture library which means you can then delete the originals and it doesn't matter

Hello shieldsadvert,

Just an off the cuff shot at your Aperture problem. Following a rash of crazy error messages similar to the situation you describe, I accidentally fell into a "software update" mode.

To my astonishment, I was several generations behind on my Aperture updates. Accordingly, I updated and voila, my problem was cured.

All told, I really like Aperture, but I expect it to be a bit squirrely at times. However the udates added some features that I now use all the time and wonder how I got along without them.

all the best,
Martin

Open aperture, at the top click on the word aperture. Scroll down and click on Provide aperture feedback. Enter name email address and problem, someone will get back to you. Photos are in the computer somewhere, aperture is only the library, someone will help from the feedback section

In addition to what was said if you move a file from its saved file it will also give you that error. You then have to go to the file you saved it in and click on it and it will reappear.

That might be the problem as the only files that I cannot access are those that I have done post processing work on then exported.
Thanks,
Bill

That's a great idea; I'll give it a try.

Are they in Iphoto?? When you plug your memory card in, what application opens them? That's where the files should be unless you tell the computer to store elsewhere. I open all of my memory cards in aperture then store in aperture library. It's a great app, worth learning how to use. Hope you find them.

Are you reimporting them? Better to use Aperture to make a separate Version for each set of changes. Uses less disk space too. I am a huge fan of Versions
