The textures and rich colors are highly attractive. For me the bird distracts because I stopped my exploration of the whole to try to figure out its form and species Also, the light colored rectangle at top center doesn't seem to fit in.

I'll be interested to hear how it looks printed. Have you printed many highly manipulated images, Jack? Some of mine have looked great, some not so much (on my home printer, glossy photo paper).

A good mix of colours is essential for this type of abstract to work well, and that's exactly what you have. I like the bird because it waits to be discovered, but I agree with Linda about the rectangle at the top.

The artist in you is sneaking out, Jack. BTW, I understand the rectangle - that is where you put the tack when you hang it (LOL).

Thanks for looking in Linda. The bird started life as a Cactus Wren. The rectangle has gone the way of the Dodo Bird, I don't even know where it came from.

I don't normally print these type of shots but now I'm going to have to try before I send it out. I was thinking of having this one done on canvas at 24x24, I have a blank wall that was created during my remodel. Do you think square would work on this?

No rectangle

I like a square for it, but do you plan to put the bird right in the center?

I know it violates several rules of composition but yes I'm going to leave it there. Half the people who see the picture will never see the bird and if I move it even fewer people will see it.

My comment was more just teasing about the fact I like the pic better without the bird (or think I would; I haven't actually tried covering it up). I do enjoy conversations about composition, however - pros and cons of personal preferences vs. the tried and true "rules." Hope it prints well and you enjoy it!

My initial reaction was that it is to dark, there are golds and tans that could be lighter & brighter. It struck me as being heavy. Just my thoughts I would lighten it overall and see what it looks like to bring out the movement in the image.

You are welcome, BTW I like what you did crafting the image. It moved my eye all over.
