Very interesting Doc. Do you see the green without the camera and lens?
If only through the lens, I found this explanation in DPReview from their forum pro:

Cheers, Johnny.

"The green "halo" is caused by the lens and results in greenish fringes around objects behind the plane of focus and magentaish fringes around objects in front of the plane of focus. This is because the lens is not "apochromatic" and different colour components of white light go out of focus at different rates away from the point of sharpest focus.

If it's any consolation almost all lenses exhibit this effect to a greater or lesser degree."

So - would that also be true of our own lenses as well? If the above is the explanation I would expect that it would be very sensitive to aperture setting and depth of field.

There are many types of green flashes .., I have seen the ones attached here as found on Wikipedia … and the ones I saw with my naked eye just as I pushed the button on burst ….

The ones pictured on typical Wikipedia shots herein attached are what I usually get ….

Doc, it may just be my imagination, but if you look very carefully, can you see the faint outline of a cylindrical object inside the green flash?
