I use win 10 and File Explorer, which reads .nef files using the Windows Photo app. In File Explorer I go to "View" then usually select "Extra Large Icons" to scroll through the images. Once I see one I like, just double click on it and a new Photos window opens up with the image. You can size the window to anything you like and you can even zoom in. You can right click on the image and select "file info" and it gives you the time and date the image was taken, ISO, shutter speed, f stop, resolution in pixels. You can even select the "slideshow" option after clicking on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner and it will go though all the images in that directory one at a time in the window size you choose. Want to browse through Nikon raw files without Lightroom. Suggestions?
You can use the free Nikon software ViewNX 2 or NX Studio.
The advantage of using manuf software to view raw files is the manuf software always renders the best color image. Disadvantages are manuf softwares are a bit clunky and crash prone and they only work for their raw fines.
