I really should not say because being an artist, I always deal with colors, so it's a rare thing for me to choose b/w.
So of course, I love the one in color.

A bit off topic maybe but I am curious. Do you paint in black and white ever? Is it done other than charcoal or pencil drawings?

Sorry to the OP for interrupting the thread.

Dennis

Dennis, no, I do not PAINT in B/W. I do pencil drawings and charcoal drawings, but not often. Only for special subjects. Sometimes I paint black on black or white on white, but again, not very often. I love to paint old barns but rarely leave out the horse (or horses).

John. I think I love RED barns best, so I think that's WHY I love the color on this one so much.

The sepia for me.

I like both, but the color slightly more. I think maybe it would look nicer with just a smidgen of yellow removed overall. Just my opinion on very nice photos.

I like the color photo best since it contrasts with background foliage.

Both are very well done - it all depends on what YOU are trying to convey. The color may be more "realistic" and has nuances the sepia image does not. However, the "mood" of the sepia image is just outstanding and more emotional (IMHO) than the color image. Ultimately both have merit and each can stand alone. Nice subject, BTW...

Thanks, Tommy. I did them both for exactly the reasons you imply.

I like both photos with no preference noted. I do love the weathered shade of red.
How is Harley Foust doing? Is he still with us?

Dennis

Thanks, Dennis. Harley is long gone, unfortunately. He was a friend and lodge mate of my dad’s, and I a friend of his daughter, about the same age as me. I have no idea whatever became of her, but the barn still sands, a couple miles from my home.

I like the sepia version but a bit more contrast in the foreground grass/weeds is needed I think.

I prefer the Color, but it's a personal choice. Neither is wrong. Best of luck.

I can understand that. Side note: have you ever thought of painting anything in black and white or a monotone? Just a thought.

Yes, my preference is also for red barns, but they are harder and harder to find, around here, at least.
