Thoughts on the Nikon and Tamron 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 lenses (and the Tamron 70-210 f/4) for D700 body?

I use the Nikon 70-300 AFS VR on my D750 and am very happy with it.
I ended up with the earliest and latest Tamron's versions of the 70-300, virtually free, then couldn't pass up Nikon's latest version, barely used, for $125. I get great images with all three, and can't tell any difference when looking at the images. I also have the D750, and am at heart an OEM kind of person, but I can not fault the Tamrons. These 70-300's have to be the best deal going in DSLR lensdom!
Ordered the Nikon AF-S 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 VR. Like New rating @ MPB for $239
I have the older quantaray 70-300f4 without vr or the built in focus motor. It’s made by Tamron because it looks exactly like one and the exif info shows it as Tamron. Mine’s a real piece of crap. Wide open fairly sharp in the center, fuzzy on the right and downright blurry on the left. It has to be stopped down to around f16 to really be considered sharp all over. No doubt mine’s a lemon...unless Tamron sells their junk units to Quantaray.
Ironically the 28-300 out performs the 70-300’s made by both companies, esp between 28-70 😎

And that would make good sense!
I've had my D700 for two years now. Great bang for the buck!

If you're just starting out, you prob should think about something in the wide range also.
