Here are USAC sprint cars on different track that I went to. I went to New Bremen when it was asphalt and dirt in 1979. In the late 70's the promoter at Winchester would let me shoot from outside turn 4 and I got Opperman at Eldora. Then there is Sheldon Kinser and Chuck Gurney at Terra Haute, and there is Pancho at New Bremen, Findlay and Winchester. Finally the awesome Nikkor 2000mm F:11 lens I got in the first turn at Indy. The lens is valued between $32,000 and $26,000,Its 2'-0" long and weighs in at 30lb and comes with is own cradle. Imagine what a tripod for this lens would cost.

Amazing pictures. What did the lens cost new? Is it a mirror lens (looks like one.)

I was always a turn both ways guy but these are a wonderful set of the left turn only bunch. I think B&W is a perfect medium

I loaded all the tri-x film with 2 Kodak film loaders myself and processed all the rolls in D76. That kept the costs down when I'm processing 13 rolls from a weekend of shooting. I used a Nikon FTN with a F36 motor drive and a F2 with a MD-1 and MB-1. So when shooting with those cameras B&W was the only consideration to control costs.

It was a special order lens so I think it would take a boat load of cash even in the 70's.

I shot and developed so many rolls of tri-x in college. I get nostalgic every time I see its familiar grain.

Great action shots! Hope the driver in #34 didn’t get a broken arm.

Good memories! Would like to see some of your turn 1 Indy photos. My first 500 was in 1958. Thanks
