If you are a home owner it should be covered on you home owners insurance. I would call your agent to check coverage or add your camera equipment if needed.

Generally, you have to buy a "rider" for your home owner's policy. And you have to have receipts for everything you want to be covered.

I have State Farm. 2 months after the initial payment my Grey Market Nikon 80-400 lens got damaged & State Farm paid the full amount that I paid for it. I didn't have to wait long for them to process my claim. They would have replaced it if it wasn't Grey Market. I'm very satisfied.

Currently I use State Farm's personal property insurance, covered items with no deductible for cameras, lens, drones, desktop computer they will not cover phones or tables. Have had no problems with the two claims I have made.

I use State Farm personal property coverage. Covers everything. Call an agent & verify!

Great question and it has encouraged me to send the following to Allstate (will let you know what I find out):

"A good question has come up on a photography chat room a lot of us follow, “That will insure camera & lenses against accidental breakage”.

First, nothing broke, nothing lost and nothing stolen; in fact, I need to add some items. My photography rider (guessing) is around $20k.

Does my policy include accidental breakage? What about falling into water and the equipment is toast?

If I have an insurable claim, will the equipment be replaced with current equivalent new or a used unit in “like condition”? Example, one of the camera bodies is Nikon D7100, no longer made but available in the used market. The new model in the same family line is Nikon D7500.

When Katerina (miss her) and I put the policy together, our focus was potential theft."

That is true. I have Allstate and add all my camera equipment on a rider and provided receipts for proof of cost.
I think my policy covers lost or damaged?

Homeowners policies will cover the camera gear while at home. It will only cover up to 10% of the value of the personal property limit when away from the house. It does not cover maintenance or camera failure. and it may have a high deductible of 1000.00 or more. There are stand alone companies that offer a better layer of coverages but it comes as a price.

One caveat. Make a claim or two on your homeowners and you may find your policy cancelled. Allstate cancelled mine for a single relatively small claim from hurricane winds (rare occasion when one comes 150 miles inland) after years coverage and no claims. Maybe better to have a separate policy.

I use Shelter Insurance Co. for camera gear I take on the road. My agent has a complete list with serial numbers of every piece. All my gear is covered whether it's lost, stolen or I drop it for full replacement value. $6K for about $5 monthly. Studio equipment at home is automatically covered by home owner ins.

That's my nickle worth. Inflation sucks........

Like you Steve, I have a rider with my Shelter Insurance company. Since I have the house and cars covered with them, the camera coverage was very reasonable.

State Farm - rider on my homeowner's insurance. It's been a simple process and easy to add new equipment. Theft, breakage et. al. covered as has been said above.

Same here. State Farm rider. Was out photographing, dropped and broke lens. Efficient claim based on purchase price was processed without any question. No change in policy or price afterward. And it is very inexpensive coverage.
