I am looking for an L-Plate so that I can use my RX10M4 on a tripod head with an Arca-Swiss mount. I would appreciate anyone's positive/negative experiences with specific L-Plates on this camera (probably earlier model Rx10s would be relevant).

I have a 3 Legged Thing from B&H that I have used on my Sony RX10 IV, my Nikon D500, D7100 and a Panasonic. I don't use it very often but it fills my needs on all four cameras when I need one. It isn't very elegant and it is a bright orange so I can easily find it. B&H lists it at $49.95 now I think.

I have an L-Bracket made for the Sony RX10IV. It is marked LB-RX10 IV with an apparent brand name Happytopstar, Both the bottom and side brackets are milled to Swiss Arca specifications. This L bracket has never been mounted on the camera (somehow I received two brackets several weeks apart, and the shipper said not to bother returning the second brackert. The bracket is black and seems to be well made. If you have a US address, I'll sell and ship the bracket for $50 (USD). I searched both the B&H and Amazon catalogs and didn't see this bracket listed, and I think $50 was about what I paid for the initial unit. ---Glennn G.

Thanks for replying. I am interested. I have seen nonames on eBay for $20+. I am trying to differentiate.
1) Have you noticed any problems with the one you have used? E.g.,
Insufficient rigidity when used with portrait orientation?
Blocking access to battery compartment, camera plug sockets, etc.
Not staying firmly attached to camera.
Does it hinder positioning the LCD display at all?

QD connections are in vogue right now...and they can be a better way to add and remove camera from strap.

You might want to look for one that has that built in...
May not find an L bracket for that model though...just something to keep in mind.

EDIT: Okay, I fumbled around...this camera is popular...and should be, but third party aren't exactly chasing it with accessories...so you might want to just get that LB mentioned for 20 bucks on Ebay....sans QD.

I wish I had learned of someone's actual experience, but I did not. I placed a $18 bet with AliExpress for a Happytopstar L-Bracket. Due in a month. I'll try to remember to leave some comment when I have tried it for future benefit.

I am surprised that someone doesn't provide a flip type bracket for mounting on a tripod that will allow camera rotation around the lens axis. I was able to get one a few years ago but it is no longer in production. It allows me to change the camera battery, connect cables or wires and to switch from landscape to portrait orientation without removing the camera or bracket from the tripod.

I just purchased the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago for my Sony RX10IV and my Nikon D7000. I love them on both cameras and highly recommend the purchase. I have used mine a few times and again just this afternoon. They are well made and look like quality merchandise. My ONLY caveat is that I purchased the tool to install and put together the L bracket when the very same tool comes in the box containing the L Bracket. Now I need to return the third one.

I have the L bracket you referenced from eBay ($20) on my RX 10 iv with a Kirk Enterprise PZ-17 quick release plate attached for my QD strap. Never comes off. Pictures available if requested.

Does it impede any positioning of the LCD?
Can you get at all cable connections with the camera on the tripod in portrait and landscape orientation?
Does she the camera ring (vibrate) more when in portrait than when in landscape orientation?

The bracket is very stable in both orientations with no detectable movement. All of the ports, SD card slot and the battery case are accessible without removing the bracket, although the battery access is a bit cramped.

The flip bracket to which I referred is this: Stroboframe 300-115 Vertaflip and there are five of them currently listed on ebay. Their cost varies from $34 to $45. In my opinion they are worth the price.
