Because in return they give us unconditional love. As one person told me many years ago, if you want proof of this, put your dog and you wife in the trunk of your car. Open the trunk lid after an hour an see which one is happy to see you.

Very nice photo of that adorable baby!!!

This was my Golden Retriever, Murphy; he was 15. I took this photo on Jan. 22 and just 2 weeks later on Feb. 4 I had to send him across Rainbow Bridge. My heart still aches. He loved the snow and loved to chase snow balls.

The paw prints they leave in our hearts are truly indelible. When my husband died, I was discussing with the funeral director about when the cremains would be available. That funeral home also cremates pets, and I still remember the director telling me that he's actually had women a couple of times who never picked up their husbands' ashes but never a pet parent who didn't pick up their companion's ashes.

This is Bud, the best frisbee dog I ever had. Won many contests and would willingly catch for anybody.

One time I was setting up the field for an event and he went missing. Found him at a nearby schoolyard taking a disc from kid to kid, asking them to throw for him!

How could you not love a dog like that?

I don't know. I know that I need her affection but more, she needs mine.

This is a cell phone image my son sent me a couple of years ago with a message that Brady & Linden (left to right) were telling him what it is like when someone passes wind !

Why we love 'em?...

For me, the words expressed by Owen Wilson at the end of the movie Marley & Me say it best...

“A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?”

Humans and dogs enjoy a symbiotic relationship that is unequaled in nature. We both enjoy each other’s company. I currently have 3. They are always forgiving. Lock your wife and your dog in the garage for 3 hours and see which one is glad to see you when you open the door. I would not do that to my wife. Just food for thought. I don’t remember how many generations of dogs I’ve buried. They were all fine friends.

There is really no other creature that gives the love that a dog does. I have adopted a rescue Border Collie/Queens Heeler mix that was found after he had been hit by a car. His back leg was badley injured. The humane society turned him over to the Border Collie Rescue people of Arizona. They did extensive surgery on his leg and I adopted him when he was almost recovered. He dosn't like other dogs at all, but he is the most loving dog I have ever had to me. His name is Howard and he is my for sure Pal.

We love them so because there is no love and loyalty more perfect than that of your dog. I love your pup and those posted here! Here's my 3 pound Yorkie, Carson, and my Lab sized mix of Aussie and Boxer, Lucy. Yorkie is THE BOSS! He was abused for 6 years before we got him. Both adopted.
