The slightly longer tracks to the outside are the rear feet. The rabbit was traveling in the same direction as the shoe print is pointing.

Now I'm learning. Never knew that. Appreciate the explanation.

I'm not a hunter, woodsman, or tracker. This is the first time I've seen these tracks. Seemed a bit odd since there is no pairing to indicate it is a four legged specie. They only show right in front of each other. For comparison I have a size 13 shoe.

One rabbit, and one Big Foot.

Rabbit, he/she is not in a hurry. Just taking it time otherwise the larger rear leg prints would be farther out in front.

As Arte Johnson would say on Laugh-In, 'very interesting.' Thank you Charles.

Good one! Never been called a Yeti before, but it tracks here. Thanks, BigDaddy.

Did anyone notice that the animal and tennis shoe tracks appear to be inverted?

My apologies, JD750. Not knowing what this was, I also could not know which direction it traveled. If you are correct, (and no reason for me to doubt you) then that's just me 'assuming'...and placing my foot in the same direction - which would mean the image you are looking at is the rabbit going one way and me going the other. Appreciate the question. Helps me to know better next time.

Looks like rabbit tracks to me

If it's rabbit tracks perhaps it's from the old time tracks of a 'Texas Rabbit' before Alaska became a state, JimmyTB. That's when everything in Texas was BIG.

Imagine the light coming from the right side, and the tracks no longer appear inverted. Sometimes simply flipping the image upside down can help one adjust to the correct perception.

Thanks, Gene. We've enjoyed watching the rabbits pass through, but oddly this is the first time we've seen their tracks in snow. So it's been a welcome learning experience going forward.

It must have been a three legged rabbit.

Looking at the size of the prints coupled with the foot placement pattern I'd say gray squirrel.

Since moving to New Hampshire, and seeing all sorts of tracks in my yard, these huge tracks are from a snow shoe rabbit, not the common cotton tail.
