Resembles Wainwright, nicknamed Skinny by his classmates at the Point. He would have just recently have been a Japanese POW in the Philippines. Looks like photos of him.
I love your photographs. Perhaps my thought comes from my own very similar photographs taken in Vietnam. They seem to resemble military life in every war.
Thanks for posting these. It's particularly germane today as yet another despot invades his neighbor.
In reviewing my post, I see that I left one picture out. Perhaps the most important and most sobering one. I think of all of those who don't come home from wars and how the future changes in their absence. There has to be a better way, but history has shown that we as a race haven't figured that out yet.
Was the last picture of the tomb taken in Okinawa? I don't think those types of tombs were in Japan.
It's possible, but my father is no longer around to ask about it. The person standing outside of the tomb is my father. There is one picture of him in the collection, probably taken by the person who sold him the rest of the pictures. So was he in Okinawa? I don't know, but it's certainly possible.
