Absolutely, Ranch cooking again. I didn't have any ham except some sliced Black Forest. I did have a few links of good sausage. The ham adds a nearly essential flavor element to the soup as was served it as a kid. Very cold here this morning - hopefully the last of the bitter cold for the year.
I understand your reasoning, even though I'm not on a ranch, I am a 15 mile round trip to the grocery store so I'll often make do with what I have on hand. I know 15 miles is the next door neighbor for some, but I still don't want to spend any more time on the road than necessary.

Yup! 36 RT to what is basically a small general store / convenience store, 52 RT to the small Supermarket we usually patronize. Worst case, we'd miss a few things, but could eat well & feed the dogs for quite a while without leaving the Ranch. Comes with the territory. I will say, out here driving is generally good fun. Very little traffic and plenty of nice scenery & wildlife!

My favourite soup only make it with ham, sounds delicious with sausage. Thank you for your recipe and fine shots quixdraw.
Oh my, just saw this and we had the same thing last night for dinner! It was cold (for San Diego) and windy and we needed some hot, thick soup to warm our souls.
Split Pea Soup (no sausage), my homemade multi-grain bread, with a fresh salad (salad prepared by husband) and a glass of chardonnay para mi, husband had a lager beer.
We usually add a ham hock to the soup, but we've been eating a LOT of meat lately, so decided to do without this time (plus didn't have any on-hand
).
No photos, but it was delicious. We will have the leftovers for lunch...

You were more energetic than I on the accompaniments, I probably would have preferred yours to mine, but I tend heavily toward the carnivore side of omnivore. Thanks for sharing!
That looks good. We love pea soup, but haven’t “souped it up” like that before. Maybe we’ll give it a try. I assume you pre-cooked the sausage to some degree?

Thank you! The sausage comes fully cooked.
