Bitter cold for them--23 degrees. This one sat warming in the sun for over an hour--didn't hunt; preened only twice; ducked when hawk flew over.
Wonderful! I have looked for them numerous times, but have never abeen lucky enough to see one.
Very nice. We saw one a couple of weeks ago at Oso Flaco Lake in Central California that spent over 30 minutes perched in reeds about 30 ft. from the wooden walk-bridge. They are so rare in my area (Southern California) that I was felt very lucky. Looks like you appreciated the opportunity too. jak
