I've been amused for a number of years, by Lake Superior State University's annual list of banned words. It's released usually right at the end of each calendar year. This year's -

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? (Or for the southernish population, Whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?) How could you say that?? It's used everywhere. I guess at some point it'll morph into "Huuuuuuuuuuuh?"
It's also annoying to my ears. My granddaughter came home from daycare and used that (ahem) wonderful phrase and I looked at her and said "What in the world?" (figuring I could try to cut that #@&^ off at the pass) She gave me this blank stare then her eyes kinda lit up.
