DST is one of the stupidest ideas ever invented. When proponents yammer on about "the extra hour of daylight", I always reply that it is no wonder we have global warming, with an extra hour of solar warming. What we really need is to set the clocks back in the spring to get an extra hour of darkness, to let the planet cool down. Whenever I say that, people look at me like I am crazy. They like DST and they think I am crazy?

Added solar warming due to the extra hour of daylight, love it.

Now that's a crock, tell the stock markets and businesses around the world they need to work on your schedule.

Is it? Businesses and stock markets operate on the hours set by whoever manages them. Their hours are not set by some fundamental law of the Universe. Working hours have changed over the years, most notably with the introduction of electric lighting, which lets people sleep through hours of daylight in the morning while clamoring for 'an extra hour of daylight' in the evening, because their working day has shifted away from natural daylight. There's nothing sacred about 9-5 or 8-5. As it is, financial workers in California have to adapt their hours to the stock markets in New York.

As for "around the world", I am not concerned about what other countries do - just the US. Businesses and markets around the world work various hours depending on the local culture and norms. But it would simplify business if everywhere stayed on local time zones which did not change on different dates.

Not disagreeing with this however most employees can't change their work schedule and they can change their clocks. All good

As a guy that drove a sub in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club…and routinely had to worry about both what used to be called GMT but is now Coordinated Universal Time officially but still called GMT as well as local time where I was as well as local time back at homeport if we were deployed…doesn't matter to me at all. I like the extra time in the afternoon now that we're retired but back when working liked the daylight to go to work as well in the winter…and the kids catching school buses were much safer if it was light instead of dark.

I grew up in Michigan before daylight saving time. In the winter is was/is still dark at 08:00 in December. If daylight saving time was in the winter it would still be dark at 09:00. In Petosky it is still light in July around 23:00.

We even had a referendum on the issue of time change. The government didn't like the result and ignored the results!

Haha.
It just shifts what the blanket covers, moving it down a foot.

The "day" is "longer" in the evening,
but the morning is shorter. No one ever mentions that.
It's all relative.

Here in Ca., a bill to end DST was passed by voters. It never happened. Local news looked into the matter and reported, it is a Federal issue. The state cannot change Federal laws. How did Arizona get away with not complying? I guess everyone else will have to spring forward March 13.

I think the USA is too big east to west to not have several time zones. Although you could do as China does and impose one zone on the country where really it probably should have 4 or 5

I didn't mean one time zone: 8:30 becomes 9:00 est., 9:30 becomes 10:00 cst., etc. I just mean split the difference within each time zone.

With one time zone for the whole country, someone in the east coast will work, lets say, 9-5, but in CA they'll work 6-2???

Keep time zones -- just roll what we have now forward 1/2 hour in each time zone!
