In contrast, Amazon photographs the package at the location where it was delivered so they can prove where it was delivered, and that image is available to you. Of course, no guarantee there’s anything in the box. I will say that I have received literally a hundred packages from Amazon, and unlike UPS or FedX, they are always on my doorstep, and nothing has ever been lost mis delivered (yet). IMHO, Amazon has established the new standard for shipping and delivery that everyone else needs to emulate.

My Fedex Ground driver has a habit of placing small items in a plastic bag and hanging them on the branches of pine trees. Larger packages are placed in plastic wrap and dumped in to the snow at the side of the road.

There are small 18" x 24 x 24 delivery boxes you can get at Amazon for holding most boxes. We have one tied to mailbox post, no problem for our post office what goes in. This has solved problem of picking up a P.O., etc. for most things.

USPS has a program called informed delivery that sends me a daily email of what is going to be delivered and it includes a photo so yes the USPS takes pictures of your items as well but you have to sign up for the service.
I like it because my mailbox is a quarter mile away and I know what I will find before I go check it

I use it as well, but unlike Amazon, it just shows the scanned letters, not packages and doesn’t show that they were delivered. I’ve had letters show up in my daily mail that wasn’t actually delivered. Not often, but it has happened. Scanned, but mis delivered is my guess.

I know that the postal service machines are what actually take the pictures as it moves through the facility but mine will give me the information for packages as well.

Your local post office must do it differently than ours

I just never get images of packages (wish I did), but I do like the service. The downside is you’re checking your email in the morning and see you have a letter from the IRS and then have to worry the rest of the day until the mail arrives 😱

My mail is generally delivered in the morning so I check the email about the same time as it runs
Fortunately I've only had one negative encounter with the IRS and this was entirely my fault

I bought a used lens for my D750 a year or so ago, shipped by USPS. I tracked it all the way to my house, and went outside minutes after the delivery email. Nothing there, and I have a three foot wall in front of my house, nothing has ever been stolen. But nothing there. I filed a lost report with USPS, they researched it, and told me to place a claim with the vendor and they would pay. The package was mis-delivered and unrecoverable. I have lived in the same place for over 20 years and they gave my lens to someone else. Before I made the claim at B&H I found my lens at my doorstep - my neighbor delivered it to me.

Insure your packages, and treat your neighbors well.

Same sort of thing happened to my son-in-law. He had just started a new job and his company provided him with a new high end laptop. He got the notice that it had been delivered, but it wasn't there. So he took a walk around the neighborhood. He found it on the next street over at a house with the same number, but different street name. I get someone elses mail once or twice a month, sometimes more often. Frustrating.
