In this photo locomotive 482 is passing extra 472.
481 is the daily scheduled excursion train of the Durango & Silverton train headed toward Silverton, Colorado. Extra 473 is the "photographers special" weighting on a siding for the other train to pass. The photographers special is an extra operated for photographers. It makes frequent stops so the train can be photographed as it puts on a show.
You can see the engineer with heat out of the cab and looking at me, hopeing that the dam fool photographer does something stupid and gets run over.

What a great photo!
I had a similar experience with the Budwiser Clydesdales... waggon master was not happy with me. I think he questioned my Intelligence and my legitimacy.
Meaning no disrespect but you may still have time to edit your first line to locomotive 481 passing 473.
I love the photograph. Well done.

Very nice photo, I’ve taken the D&S train 4 times, but didn’t know they had a photographer special.
Observation.
When on RR tracks, sound does not travel forward of the train well, and this is why people get caught and killed by trains. This is the reason for the exclusion of walking on tracks. You can easily see a train coming, but having it approach from behind is another story. I quote M. Duchamp "You can see seeing, you can't hear hearing."

The damn fool photographer is already doing something stupid by being on the tracks.

Really nice photo. I'm sure the engineers are quite use to photographers doing stupid things to get the photo.
Great photo. I need to take that trip. Will put it on my bucket list.
