Magnificent action shots of pelican. You managed to capture the angle of the head in a dive, the vergence movement of the eyes to a frontal angle, the changing configuration of the wings and head. One of the best sequence of pelican in a dive that I have seen. Where were you at the time? Camera? Details of photos?

got tons of photos of these guys but nothing half as good as these, on a scale of 1 to 10 these would be in the teens

I rendered the initial six shots as high key due to a dull gray sky background. The final four were rendered differently when the bird broke the horizon. Enjoy.

Thanks for the high praise, hjkarten. These were taken from my back deck which sits on a canal on North Padre Island, Texas. The pelicans feed almost daily in the canal so I have frequent opportunities, but this sequence was one of my best. Nikon D850 with Nikon 500mm PF lens and 1.4TC. I am tracking the bird in 3D track mode using back button focus. I have learned to release BBF when the bird breaks the background horizon, otherwise the camera will attempt to refocus on the background. You can download an image and look under properties for additional details or send me a private message if you care to discuss further. Again, thanks for your comments.
