I'm having trouble finding a Sony repair facility that'll repair or give me advice on fixing a Sony A1. The glass at the rear of the camera is broken . The screen and everything behind the glass still works. The local camera repair guy thinks that Sony doesn't sell parts. He thinks that maybe the whole unit will have to be replaced . Does anyone have any suggestions about this or know how to contact Sony repair.

Go to the Sony Alpha website and look up support. You should find your answer there. I assume this is not a warranty repair. If it is only use an authorized repair center.

Sony subcontracts non-warranty camera and lens repair (like physical damage) to Precision Camera:

https://www.precisioncamera.com/Sony

For in warranty repair you can contact Sony directly:

Be prepared for a shock. When my local repair shop was still in business, they were an authorized Sony repair station. They could only buy subassemblies, not parts from Sony. Made most repairs cost 3-4x what would have been expected. His explanation was that as a consumer products company, Sony wanted to push people to buy new instead of repair.

Please let us know whether you find that to still be the case.

There is a thread on here about Sony replacing a damaged LCD screen on an A1 which took a tumble at the Olympics.

I'm sure that process was different from what would be offered to mere mortal owners.

I find it interesting the camera even fell.
It has a neck strap attached that does not look broken.
The fool using it seems to have forgotten that is what a strap is for to prevent such things from happening.
Oh well.
Edit, saved by a Canon shooter.

At this point, pretty much all A-1's are under warranty.
There should be zero problems getting it repaired.

Warranty coverage almost always excludes physical damage from some type of fall or drop, if that was the cause of the problem. Need to purchase casualty insurance coverage for such claims; some credit cards used to include such protection for a limited time if used for the purchase, maybe still do.

It may not be covered...but being under warranty is a guarantee it will be repaired...if one goes to the trouble of actually talking with Sony.

Thanks. I have to say their warranty/repair coverage web page (at least the one I looked at) is not a model of clarity! I guess for one you're supposed to contact Sony, if no warranty then you can contact Precision directly.
