your home is food for termites after you killed the tree!
seems to be an endless cycle.

If you ask any individual to sacrifice for the whole, the answer you will get is “I have myself and a family to feed, you can’t ask this of me. Ask them.”

I know how much you love jazz. Perhaps you can try this folk song which says it all, sung by Judy Collins; Marat/Sade from the finest folk album ever made- In My Life

In my Life was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The Judy Collins version is haunting we played it at my brothers funeral. He was a no vaccine enthusiast unlike me and although ten years younger than me Covid killed him. I survived.

The system is already rigged.... Everything in this material universe is based on the opposing forces of attraction and repulsion. The so called Diety, grand architect etc... set this up. Who knows what the plan is... You can't have good without evil as one IMPLIES the other... An EXPERT photographer by definition implies that there are less than expert photographers. When we say GOOD, we naturally infer there is a BAD. We have been given advice from many sages throughout history... its up to us to recognize the message and live our lives accordingly. Our super inflated egos are NOT going to figure it all out. If this race is doomed, then so be it ! Reread The RAMA series by Arthur C. Clark... and watch civilizations WINK out on the big board as they fail.

I hope that the "we" you speak of encompasses the entire population of this old planet and not just the we of the USA, because as bad as that we may be it is by far better than the rest. In my 86 years I have visited many other places, civilizations if you will, and you and we are in a much better place here.

What I mean is that humans are mean. They're mean to each other, to animals, and to the planet. Just look at some of the words in the English language: war, torture, homeless, refugee, greed, child abuse. The list goes on. It's not that we hear about the bad things in the news because we hear just a tiny part of the bad things. It's about the history of mankind. We are just bad all around.

I don't think anyone would argue that Homo sapiens are a balanced species...we are hyper violent after all.

It's possible that the wrong Hominid won out.
Studies have shown that Denisovans had a more balanced brain...less violent...more integrated sense wise into their environment.
It's possible that their rate of progression was the correct one...long term success without killing each other and the planet in the process.

We may have won out...only to be a bottle rocket failure.

Possibly...

I am. It seems apparent to me, but it’s a matter of faith, and I respect the beliefs of those that may not agree.

Hey TriX,

you'l appreciate this irony; I am a man of little faith but I have
absolutely no doubt about the existence of Jesus Christ.
He was reported by his enemies and he was reported by his followers.

The historic record of Jesus Christ is as solid as that of Cleopatra,
Julius Caesar, Ptolomy etc.

He is the greatest man to have walked this Earth and imho
there is no better person to follow.

We need to jail Drs Without Borders, sink the Mercy ships, & hang Mother Theresa in effigy!

You might be down under Abo, but your thinking is right there at the top.... Life is not supposed to be a bowl of cherries, but some sort of testing ground... Follow the teachings of sages and prophets throughout history with Jesus Christ being the latest and greatest. Make your choices and either pass or fail.... NOT that hard to love your neighbor.

I'm not a religious guy but I have no problem with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I DO have a problem with a lot of the people who purport to follow him but don't.
It is human nature to put your own spin on things.

As far as the Bible is concerned, it was written by men. Supposedly it was divinely inspired, but when you get a human into the process there's ample room for error. (And, of course, it was not written in English until many years later. Men were certainly involved in the translation).

Has the human race had enough time on earth? Should we be eliminated and let something else see if it can do better? Looking at the history of humanity, we have been a total screw-up since Day One. No redeeming social value. We can't get along with ourselves, other animals, or the earth itself.

OK, you can set an example by starting the elimination process by eliminating yourself first, then maybe the rest of humanity will follow.

Right on.

Every now and then I need to be reminded of that. One of my neighbors has been a dangerous PITA,
and has openly admitted that he does not care about the safety and well being of his neighbors.

It's too hard to be as perfect as Jesus was. But one can try... it's also easy to forget
that "in the heat of the moment".
