Mankind is still quite primitive...give it time.
Pretty much the common theme from the ages on down from mankind has consistently been...is it almost over?

No...not by a long shot.
These are...growing pains.

I agree Jerry - it’s a constant source of amazement to me that the Diety allows such a destructive race to continue. If termites were intent on destroying my home, I’d have them exterminated.

And now more than ever, incompetence is considered a virtue.

As the mathematician said in Jurassic Park: “nature will find a way.” (And nature doesn’t necessarily play favorites .)

It seems to me that one could observe and experience some of the detrimental policies and practices of those in power without crying “the sky is falling.’’ Obviously negativity is greatly amplified by the rapid dissemination if information/misinformation today. Without reducing this to a political argument as it is obvious most source their information from a single or narrow source and are not pliable enough to let reason to spawn thought I will just say that if most on this site quantified their life, experiences, families, work, travel, education and treatment by and towards others they would say it was a pretty good ride. Not saying to stick your head in the sand but really…

On the other hand, there are those whose head is already in the sand. Not saying to pull your head out of the sand but really... It's nota bout the ride that was but the one to come.

Are things really that much worse or are we just listening to the noise which is much more intense and convinced that they are? Remember what Rahm Emanuel said, “You never want a serious crises to go to waste.” We have clearly seen that play out with regularity. Most negativity in our life can be attributed to less than desirable personal choices and bad public policy and media and tech proliferated tribalism. Seems to me the more convinced we are that we are in such a declining state the more willing we are to turn over control of our lives to our politicians, tech giants, and multi-national corporations that we complain about so I guess we choose our poison.

Not saying my ride as been anything but great, and I think my son would say the same so far, but it’s my grandchildren’s world that concerns me. Although our health and quality of life is certainly better for most than 100 years ago, I think it’s very difficult to make the argument that we’ve made this earth is a better place or that the world is safer/more secure than it was. Every day that we spend a sizable percentage of our human capital and natural resources protecting ourselves against each other with increasingly deadly weapons makes us less safe, and every militaristic country such as North Korea that develops more nuclear weapons makes the chance of their use higher.

Species extermination has occurred many times in our earth's geologic history. What would make you think that "we" are exempt. Compared to the dinosaur's we have only been here a short time. It will happen again!

You're assuming that there is a deity.

I am. It seems apparent to me, but it’s a matter of faith, and I respect the beliefs of those that may not agree.
