The 64 GTO was 500 pounds lighter than the 65 and while it had some issues, it's still the best looking of them all IMHO. Slap a set of station wagon rears springs in, and a set of "no hop" traction devices, and these will scream.

What is and Who made the ‘64 Goat?

In addition to what Mike said, goats are known for eating anything and the GTO was fast and would eat anything on the street - stoplight to stoplight racing.
Yes, Goats were great doing one thing - going straight fast until that GM float kicked in.
Really love the auto photos. I was hoping that eventually you would show the 63 or 64 Pontiac LeMans convertible.
I bought that car in November 1963; all black: body, interior & top. I thought that was the best looking car available at the time. My first new car; my first convertible; loved that car. Major horsepower, almost good enough braking.
Finally sold it to a friend for use by his daughter at college in 1970.
Unfortunately, I have no decent photo of car; can't remember the model name and cannot find an exact photo of my car on the net.
Thanks for your series of auto shots..

Pontiac made far more GTO's than Ferrari ever did.
When was John DeLorean involved with Pontiac?
I think the original GTO was built under his watch.
this is a great series. It reinforces what I've often thought - for my taste, the '57/'58 period had some of the best looking cars! They kind of went downhill from there!

Correct. DeLorean and others at Pontiac wanted a more sporty/performance market in 64', and maybe a bit earlier. The first GTOs were an option on the Tempest/LeMans line in 64-65. In 1966 GTO became a separate line for Pontiac.
Very nice. I remember them when they were new. Putting that pinstriping on the Caddy was a smart move.
