There,is one thing that the "environmentalists" have right. Pollution. We continue to foul up the planet. It must stop. The US has been somewhat successful in cleaning up our mess. But the rest of the world is still fouling up the planet. It's cheaper to $hit in the street than to build treatment plants. Turn rivers lakes and coastlines open sewers than stop using them as toilets. Render beautiful animals extinct for the money. We have much to be ashamed of. There will come a point ( if things dont change) when the damage will be beyond repair.

Just the other night one of my girls said, "There's SO many whiny men out there!" She's learned from me that you don't slack off, you don't whine and you put your wife and kids first. I had open heart surgery 2 months ago and less than 3 weeks after surgery I was chaining up and loading logs. I was careful to keep from cracking my chest bone back apart and yes I was slower than normal, but that setting around feeling sorry for myself business isn't for me.

Photography is a great way to relax. If the day's been rough, grab the camera, go for a walk and if you find something interesting, shoot it. That's the wonderful thing about digital; you can go crazy shooting and simply delete the junk. One time I was shooting close up reflections of objects in dew drops, which leaves a paper thin field of focus. I took over 200 shots, kept 6 and really consider only 2 or so as being worthy. In the "good old days" of film, those two keepers would have cost me over $100 each.

Why is it you do not worry, and are calm. Says my wife. Yes I do worry, but I don't readily show it.
If I can fix it I will fix it. If can't I can't, then I get someone who knows how to fix it. Or replace it.

One has to look back at when this concern started, and possibly who led that movement. The Global Warming topic was championed by Al Gore shortly after, or around the time of, the loss of his chance to become president. It also was one of the warmer summers that year. In order to maintain some sense of relevance, Al championed Global Warming.

Of interest is the number of Global Warming conferences that were canceled due to blizzards. After a number of weather record-setting low temperatures, Al changed the mantra to Climate Change. This way regardless of the direction the temperatures took, he'd be correct. He managed to garner enough followers to initiate an almost religious cult focused on Climate Change.

Scientists, who make their living from government grants, seemed to fall in line with this cult and that keeps the grant money flowing. However, there are some notable scientists, who have sufficient income from other sources, who debunk all this Global Warming/Climate
Change fervor and provide their evidence to refute the cult.

Now, I do agree with the theme of your post that those driving electric vehicles tend to overlook the fact that their power is coming from some potentially polluting source. They only know that they are not relying on the "evil" fossil fuel industry directly.

Now, if one really wants to generate some concern, dihydrogen monoxide should probably be the topic of focus. According to the World Health Organisation, inhaling dihydrogen monoxide is the 3rd leading cause of death worldwide. The list of hazards from this substance is staggering.

I wonder how many that have commented in this thread have
studied Environmental Science???

The thing is, all the "fixes" from wind power to electric cars and everything in
between are bull shit.
As the problem is, the planet was grossly overpopulated at 4 billion...
however at the moment the global population is nudging twice that.

If that's not addressed, the planet is screwed and the human race will
revert to the law of the jungle.

Finally! Something we can agree on!!! I never thought I would see the day.

With global warming such a key topic these days why doesn't the brain trust in America and around the world look at some simpler solutions than just simply saying eliminate fossil fuels. Why don't they understand that all these electric cars are going to need massive improvements in our power plants -- and what will run these power plants? Fossil fuel of course unless someone is going to build about 60 Hoover dams or duplicate the TVA project all over the country! How about taking 1" strips of silver Mylar and seeding space above the Exosphere (to keep interference with satellites at a minimum). There has also been a proliferation of giant warehouses across the nation, in the 500,000 to 2,000,000 variety (at least in our area). These huge boxes have replaced trees and grass that is somewhat reflective with dark grey or black roofs, and giant black parking lots. Why not require any buildings with a size of greater than 25,000 sq. ft. to use silver paint on the roofs. I wonder how much impact painting a 5 acre parking lot white and having black lines would have -- would look pretty cool though! Why don't we hear more about thermal energy? It seems everyone is so into solar and wind when everywhere in America we have constant underground temperatures that range from about 50 to 56 degrees. Why aren't we utilizing this? Groundwater heat pumps are extremely efficient and while the upfront cost is a lot, if it was being done in large scale the cost would likely come down as multiple companies competed for the projects. It seems everyone with any authority is looking for one silver bullet that will end global warming. Why not do a lot of smaller projects that will collectively add up to a greater benefit?

I wonder what they are going to do with all the dead battery's from these electric cars.

Interesting statements about geothermal. We had a geo system installed when we built our home. Great benefits from it included forced air heat and AC, domestic hot water and hydronic in-floor heat in the basement.
This was all great until problems with the system arose and we needed service. Very very few installers and service people for it. Regular HVAC people will not touch this system. You are correct, with all the talk of energy savings and environmental issues there is never any talks about geo sourced heating and cooling.
We spent a great deal of money for this system and we were greatly disappointed with support for geo system service. We have since installed very high efficiency furnace and AC. Our geo system is still present for domestic hot water and hydronic heat, but we cannot find anyone in our area that will roll their sleeves up to service it.

Everything has a cost. Sometimes it’s on the front end and other times the tail end. You can charge your emission free electric car with “green” wind turbine electricity. What people don’t know is how many birds die annually from the blades of each turbine. Missouri department of conservation did a study a few years back but I forget the numbers. The turbine blades are made from fiberglass, which requires energy for mining sand and turning it into glass fibers. Steel is required for the structure and inside the “dog house “ massive amounts of copper are used in the generator windings, which must be mined. Check out the water pollution problems Butte Montana has from abandoned copper mines. Batteries require minerals be mined and energy be used to manufacture them. And then comes the disposal of the battery parts that can’t be recycled.

People driving electric cars are just as hard on the environment as are other drivers only they let people on each end do the polluting instead of them. That way they can feel good about themselves and criticize us conventional drivers as the ones doing the polluting.

Nothing in a conventional IC powered car or an electric vehicle is without a cost in energy to produce it, and both have to be disposed of in the end, and both require highway infrastructure. Everything involved in transportation and energy generation requires energy, whether to fuel the transportation or build the energy generation infrastructure, but one thing is certain. When we’ve mined the last of the coal and drilled the last of the oil and natural gas, we’re going to need an alternative energy source, or we’ll walk and freeze in the dark (and likely starve), so we better get with the program, because sure as chicken, there is an end to fossil fuels, whether it’s in our lifetime or not.

I guess I'd better identify myself as a climate denier up front. That would make anyone with opposing views a climate believer. I would ask you, do you really believe that if we don't act now, in 10 years it will be too late to avoid climate catastrophe. Given that we are one of the few nations that are actually reducing our carbon emissions and that China and India are going in the opposite direction big time, from a practical point of view, it's too late now. We might as well bend over and kiss our a**es goodbye.

Ever wonder why there are no positive effects of climate change only negative. Anything that happens is going to make things worse. The real world doesn't work that way. In the real world we weigh the benefits vs the risks and make rational decisions accordingly. In the climate believer's world, any risk no matter how small is worth any cost, no matter how large to fix. This is the way governments work. And the sad thing is, many of our fixes are actually going to make things worse, like switching to electric cars without a suitable source to power them. Nuclear power might but doesn't fit the agenda.

Much discussion here about the effects of volcanoes. The recent blast of the Tonga volcano was unique with wide ranging effects never seen before. Good thing it lasted only an hour instead of days like the others mentioned but it ain't done yet. But the volcano we should all be worried about is Yellowstone. It's a super volcano that erupts every 700,000 years and it hasn't erupted in 750,000 years. Just the blast will take out the western US and will probably cause nuclear winter for decades if not longer. And subterranean magma movement and other volcanic activity is more pronounced than we've seen before.

One last thought. Ever notice the similarity between climate change and the CoVid pandemic. A natural phenomenon is identified to be an emergency situation by our governments and they take increasing control to protect us from their predictions at the expense (literally and figuratively) of our natural rights and freedoms.

That's because he got it RIGHT!!!

I've lived in the Philippines for 6 years, now, and would not go back to the US even if I could afford it! Unless, that is, people come to their senses and throw out (almost literally) the radicals and their traitorous/disastrous agenda. There's a lot missing here, but I adapted easily, and do like it.
